About The Program

NBHM Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies in Mathematics 2018 invites applications from graduates or postgraduate students for pursuing studies leading to a masters degree in mathematics. 

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed
An applicant must belong to any of the following categories -
  • He/she must hold a first class BA/BSc degree in mathematics or at least second class BA(Hons.)/BSc(Hons.) degree in mathematics. 
  • He/she must be in the final year of BA/BSc programme which is expected to be completed by July 2018 with a first class (in case of an honours program, at least a second class is required).
  • He/she must have a good academic record and have completed or expect to complete one year of MSc programme in Mathematics by July 2018. 
  • He/she must have completed or expect to complete the 3 or 4 years of a five-year integrated MSc programme in Mathematics by July 2018 with cumulative marks/grade equivalent to a first class. 
Benefits

The selected scholars will receive INR 6,000 per month for a two-year period duration of the PG programme. For students, who are in the final year of MA/MSc or five-year integrated MSc programme, the scholarship will be given for one year only. 

How can you apply?
Eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship by post through following steps -
Step 1: Prepare the application in the prescribed format on a plain paper. 
Step 2: Affix recent passport size photograph and attach a self-addressed envelope. 
Step 3: Send the duly filled application with its envelope super-scribed as NBHM MA/MSc Scholarships to the Zonal Coordinator of the zone in which the applicant wants to appear for the written test at addresses mentioned below -

Important Dates

Date of receiving Hall Ticket: 27 August 2018 (if the hall ticket is not received by the date, the applicant should contact the zonal coordinator)
Date of written test: 22 September 2018
Selection Criteria
The selection of the scholars will be made on the basis of -
  • Written test: The students will have to appear for a written test of two and half hours that involve short answer type question primarily in the areas of algebra and analysis and other key areas of mathematics. 
  • Interview: The shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an interview after the written test.

  • To avail the scholarship, students have to be enrolled in a recognized post-graduate programme in mathematics in India. 
  • The disbursal of the scholarship will be done through the institution only where the applicant will join. 
  • The scholarship will be sanctioned for one year at a time and can be renewed at the end of the year, subject to satisfactory progress of the students. 
  • The written test will be conducted at following centres: 
    • Zone 1: Chandigarh, Srinagar, New Delhi 
    • Zone 2: Raipur, Jabalpur, Indore, Allahabad
    • Zone 3: Mumbai, Goa, Vallabh, Pune, Vidyanagar
    • Zone 4: Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Ranchi
    • Zone 5: Hyderabad, Cochin, Chennai, Bangalore
  • The applicants will receive the hall ticket for written test and details about the allotment of the centre before the exam.
