About The Program

NASA Project Mars International Art and Film Contest 2018 invites entries from college students and working professionals in the field of film or graphic art industry with less than 5 years of experience. The contest aims to encourage the contestants to create their own visualisation of NASA’s upcoming mission to Mars through a short film or a poster.

Benefits

Three prizes will be awarded in the film category:

One grand prize of USD 10,000
Two judge’s prize of USD 5,000

Eight prizes will be awarded in the poster category:

First Place: USD 1,500 (for one contestant)
Second Place: USD 1,000 (for two contestants)
Third Place: USD 500 (for five contestants)

How can you apply?

Step 1: Create your short film or a poster according to the specifications.
Step 2: Click here to open the online application form.
Step 3: Select the Video/Visual art category.
Step 4: Fill in all the details and click next.
Step 5: Share the YouTube or Vimeo link of your short film or upload the poster in PDF format optimised for on-screen viewing.
Step 6: Click 'submit entry'.

Notification to winners: October 2018

Selection Criteria

The winner will be judged on the basis of their submitted artwork by a panel of renown professionals of this industry. 

Terms and Conditions

Short Films are required to follow the specifications given below:

  • Duration: 2 to 5 minutes
  • Resolution: 1920x1080
  • Frame rates: 29.97, 24, or 25
  • Bitrate: 20Mbs
  • Codec: H.264
  • Sound Codec: AAC-LC
  • Audio sample rate: 48 KHz
  • Audio bitrate: 320 kbps
  • Include "Project Mars Competition" as keywords while uploading.

Poster Specifications:

  • Winning entries will need to be provided as full resolution printable files.
  • Standard on-sheet size of 27" x 41".
  • Raster images may be used for poster elements. Images should be no smaller than 150 dpi. Rasterized typography should be 300 dpi or greater.
  • All fonts should be converted to outlines prior to submission.
  • Poster must be submitted in pdf format.

A: No, completed designs or films may not be shown ahead of the judged screening by Project Mars.
