- A journalist working with the media in the North-East
Benefits
The selected candidate will be awarded:
- INR 1.5 lakhs paid from the month of the commencement of the scholarship (This amount is tentative and may be increased depending on the effectiveness of working style).
- Appropriate reimbursement of travel expenses on actuals after submission of proper invoices.
Fellowship payment-
The stipend will be paid out to the fellow scholars in three instalments:
- 20% at the end of the first month/commencement of the fellowship
- 30% at the end of four months, subject to submission of the stipulated number of articles within the 4‐month period
- 50% upon successful completion of the fellowship and submission of the deliverables
Documents
The following documents are required to be attached with the application:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- A letter of support from the applicant's editor/producer stating that the final output (stories, news reports, features, opinion pieces etc.) will be published/broadcast/telecast by the affiliated media group
- Freelance journalists can submit a letter of recommendation from a media group or a publication indicating its willingness to publish/broadcast/telecast her/his work
- A comprehensive fellowship proposal outlining:
- The region (state/districts) their proposal is focused on
- The subjects and story ideas that the applicant proposes, including a strategy for each of the five stories that they will publish
- Print/online journalists are also expected to provide a sample of their published work on a development issue. The work should not be older than six months.
- Television and radio journalists must provide one sample (on CDs) of their telecast/broadcast programme on a development issue, as well as a summary of the programme. All submissions must include the date of the broadcast /telecast and the channel/station where it was aired, ideally within the last six months.
How can you apply?
The applicant needs to follow the below steps:
Step 1: Write a comprehensive fellowship proposal (500-800 words) outlining the region of study and the subject and story ideas the candidate would be focusing on.
Step 2: Attach the necessary documents.
Step 3: Send the completed application to mediaustm@gmail.com with “Application for ICGS USTM Media Fellowships ‐ 2018” as the subject of the mail.
Note: Journalists are also expected to provide a sample of their work.
Selection Criteria
The winner will be chosen through a written test and interview by an expert committee comprising veteran and renowned media personalities and academicians.

Research topics for the Project Study Fellowship:
- Study on “Skill India and its Impact at Grass root Level”
- Study on “Comparative Development Scenario of Model Villages Identified by Members of Parliament: Before and After Adoption”
- Study on “Rise of New Age Media and its Impact”
Terms and conditions:
- The applicant should be a graduate.
- The applicants will be given a chance to refine their proposals post selection if the jury so recommends.
- Scholars will be expected to spend a significant amount of their time in the field areas to report on the concerned subject.
- The study must be based on the North East region of India.
- The study will be conducted as per UGC rules and regulations followed by the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya.
- During the period of research, the scholar has to present four progress reports at the end of every six months, as per the UGC guidelines.
- Applications without the editors’/producers’ undertaking will not be considered
- The fellows will have to submit four out of the six deliverables within four months from the commencement of the fellowship.
