The International Centre for Gandhian Studies (ICGS), a constituent of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya invites applications from qualified, competent and committed Journalists/Activists for conducting research on the topics of high social relevance and earn up to INR 3.6 lakhs. The fellowship will be for a duration of three years for supporting the PhD education of applicants.

DeadlineClosed Eligibility The eligibility requirements for the fellowship are:
- The applicant should be a postgraduate
- The applicant should have secured a minimum of 55% marks in his/her postgraduation (Relaxable by 5% for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Minority community)
- The applicant should either have experience in print, television or digital media in North-East or be a social activist
Benefits The selected candidate will be awarded:
- INR 3.6 lakhs paid from the month of the commencement of the scholarship
- Free admission and course fees at USTM amounting to INR 3.6 lakhs
Note: The stipend will be paid out to the fellow scholar in instalments, for a period of 3 years. They have two options to opt from:
- A monthly scholarship of INR 10,000 for 3 years
- INR 60,000 every 6 months for 3 years
Documents The documents required to be attached with the application are:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Fellowship proposal
How can you apply? The applicant needs to follow the steps:
Step 1: Write a comprehensive fellowship proposal (500-800 words) outlining the area of study the proposal is focussed on (for example state/district/rural/urban).
Step 2: Attach the necessary documents with the application.
Step 3: Send the completed application to mediaustm@gmail.com with “Application for ICGS USTM Media Fellowships ‐ 2018” as the subject of the mail.
Selection Criteria
A jury of eminent academicians, editors and media professionals will review the applications, including fellowship proposal and the sample of published work or telecast/broadcast material and select the media fellows.

Research topics for the Ph. D Fellowship:
- Study on “Divorce, its Causes and Impact”
- Study on “Inter Community Marriage and its Effect”
Terms and Conditions:
- The applicant should be a postgraduate
- The fellowship projects should be completed in a period of 3 years in order to attain the degree
- Scholars will be expected to spend a significant amount of their time in the field areas to report on the concerned subject.
- The study must be based on the North-East region of India.
- The study will be conducted as per UGC rules and regulations followed by the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya.
- During the period of research, the scholar has to present four progress reports at the end of every six months, as per the UGC guidelines.
