About The Program

The fellowship program “Media Ambassadors India – Germany” aims to attract journalists with an interest in international understanding between India and Germany. During a stay of approximately three months, Indian fellow journalists would gain knowledge of Germany’s journalistic practices and will be collaborating on stories while providing insights into cross-border professional knowledge. After completion of the program, fellows have a range of possibilities to further the German and Indian journalists' collaboration through an alumni network.

Indian Journalists without any limitation of age, gender, religion, or any other affiliations who adhere to following requirements:-

  • Proven professional experience of several years as a journalist (TV, radio, print, online)

  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English. German language skills would be preferred.

Benefits
  • Four-week academic course at Center for Media Competence at the University of Tubingen
  • On-job training with editorial departments in Hamburg or Berlin for eight weeks.
  • The Fellowship covers for-

    • Monthly stipend of EUR 1600
    • Professional journalistic skill enhancement courses
    • Fellowship on-job training with German newsrooms 
    • An extensive cultural program
    • An all-paid field trip to Germany.
Documents
  • CV with a current photo
  • Letter of motivation (one A4 page)
  • One detailed investigation/reporting plan (topic, interview partners, schedule etc.) for one of the journalistic projects the applicant would like to realize during her/his stay (one A4 page)
  • The applicants also need to suggest two further plans that they would like to work on while they are attending the fellowship in Germany.
  • Three work samples (Textual content preferred): If the applicants are radio or TV journalists, they are required to submit short descriptions or reviews of their productions)
  • Complete online application form

How can you apply?

Follow the below steps to apply-

Step 1: Complete the online application form, click here
Step 2: Upload the required documents in the desired format (find details of required documents below)
Step 3: Submit the Online application form
Step 4: The shortlisted applicants will be informed via email and phone calls.
Step 5: Upon application shortlisting, the applicant will be called for an interview (in English); generally two weeks prior to the final selection announcement.
Step 6: Final selections will be announced after the interview analysis.

Important Note: 

The applicant should combine the documents to be submitted into a single PDF file. Incomplete applications and applications with more than one PDF file will not be accepted.

Applicants should not send any audio or video files, CDs or DVDs. The PDF attachment must not exceed a total of 16 MB in size. For more details visit this link

FAQ's

Q. Is there an age restriction for applicants?
A. No, there is no age limit for applicants. The program is open to all professional journalists from India.

Q. My work samples are in German or another language that is not English. Should I translate these into English?
A. No. Work samples should be submitted in their original format.

Q. Can Indian or German foreign correspondents also apply for a fellowship in the Medienbotschafter program?
A. In general, the program prefers journalists without previous posting experience. But in case if the applicant has some experience in working in the partner country, yet strongly interested in the program, she/he can apply.
