About The Program

Maulana Azad National Fellowship For Minority Students 2018-19 is to provide integrated five-year fellowships to minority communities, as notified by the Central Government to pursue higher studies such as MPhil and PhD at Indian Universities. The minority groups pursuing higher studies such as regular and full-time MPhil/PhD degrees in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology will be eligible. Candidates can get a stipend of up to INR 28,000 per month along with other benefits for a duration of 5 years.

To be eligible, the candidates must:

  • Have cleared CBSE/NTA-UGC-NET/ CSIR-NET examination prior to applying for the fellowship
  • Be an Indian Citizen and belong to minority category (Muslim, Sikh, Parsi, Buddhist, Christian and Jain)
  • Have an annual family income not exceeding INR 6 lakhs per annum
  • Be registered as a regular and full-time student in MPhil/PhD courses
Benefits

The eligible candidates get the following benefits:

  • The candidates will receive a monthly stipend of INR 25,000 for initial 2 years as a Junior research fellow (JRF)
  • The candidates will receive a monthly stipend of INR 28,000 for remaining 3 years as a Senior research fellow (SRF)
  • A contingency grant of INR 10,000 (for initial 2 years) and INR 20,500 (for remaining 3 years) per annum for Humanities & Social Sciences and Commerce
  • A contingency grant of INR 12,000 (for initial 2 years) and INR 25,000 (for remaining 3 years) per annum for Science
  • An escorts/reader assistance of INR 2000 per month (for physically and visually challenged candidates)

  • Domicile certificate 
  • Minority community certificate (Affidavit on a non-judicial stamp paper of INR 10)
  • Scanned copy of candidate's recent colour photograph and signature
  • NET/JRF award letter or mark sheet in case award letter has not been received
  • Master's degree mark sheet
  • Verification certificate (to be uploaded at the designated place after getting it signed and attested by the Competent Authority)
  • Disability certificate, if applicable

Step 2: Read the instructions and click on 'Proceed For Registration'.
Step 3: Provide personal details and a registration ID will be generated (which will be helpful for downloading pdf file once the submission is complete).
Step 4: Provide research work details including subject, research topic, department etc.
Step 5: Provide other details such as scholarships, present employment etc.
Step 6: Submit the application.

Selection Criteria

The candidates will be selected based on merit in the previous examination.

  • Suitable single-seated hostel accommodations may be provided to the candidates in the institution.
  • The candidates are entitled to a maximum period of 30 days of leave in a year in addition to public holidays.
  • Candidates are eligible for maternity/paternity leave as per the Govt. of India norms.
  • The candidates should join within 3 months of the award of the fellowship
  • Fellows can transfer their fellowship with permission of the University and the UGC.
