About The Program

Warburg Long-Term Research Fellowships in Intellectual and Cultural History 2018-19, UK invites applications from postdoctoral scholars who have been awarded their doctorate within the preceding five years. Offered by the Warburg Institute which is associated with the University of London, this fellowship aims to promote research in Intellectual and Cultural History. The scholars selected for this programme will receive a fellowship of up to GBP 30,512.

To be eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must-

  • Be a postdoctoral scholar having been awarded his/her doctorate within the past 5 years (after 1 October 2013)
  • Be a candidate who has successfully completed the defence of his/her doctorate or viva before 23 November 2018
Benefits

The scholars selected for this programme will receive a fellowship of approximately GBP 30,512 pro rata for 9 months. The fellowship will also include London Allowance (value as at 31.7.2017) and the whole payment will be made monthly in arrears.

  • An abstract of the research project (up to 150 words)
  • A detailed description of the proposed research project (up to 800 words)
  • Curriculum vitae (no longer than 3 x A4 pages)
  • One writing sample (close to 5000 words)
  • Two letters of reference
How can you apply?

Follow the below steps to apply-

Step 1: Download the application form.
Step 2: Fill all the required fields in the application form.
Step 3: Visit the online application portal of the University of London and register as a new candidate.
Step 4: After creating the login credentials, upload the duly filled application form along with a writing sample.
Step 5: Submit the application.

Note: The candidates also need to provide letters of reference from two referees before the application deadline. References must be emailed by the referees as Word or PDF document attachments (on headed paper, signed and scanned) direct to warburg@sas.ac.uk and the applicant’s surname and "Warburg Long-term Fellowship" must appear in the subject line of the email.

  • Interviews and the announcement of the successful candidates: March 2019

Terms and Conditions
  • Incomplete applications will be rejected.
  • The fellowship awarded to scholars is liable to deductions for tax and National Insurance.
  • In case the candidate's doctorate was awarded before 1 October 2013, they must make a clear case in their application for any modification of this general rule (e.g. maternity/paternity leave or illness resulting in a career break).
  • The scholars will automatically be deemed to be a member of the Universities’ Superannuation Scheme (USS) and will have contributions deducted accordingly.
  • Professors and lecturers will not be eligible for this fellowship.
  • The fellowship cannot be held concurrently with another fellowship.
  • At the Warburg Institute, the candidates will have to take up original research on the topic outlined during application.
  • At the conclusion of the appointment, the fellows will be required to provide a brief written report.
