About The Program

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Korea invites applications for the Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) 2023 from bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree holders. This scholarship program offers fully-funded scholarships and other benefits to international students to pursue advanced education.

To be eligible, an applicant must - 

  • not hold Korean citizenship or dual citizenship 
  • have excellent academic and school record
  • be below 25 years of age (for UG degree)
  • be below 40 years of age (for Graduate degree)
  • have secured more than 80% of CGPA
  • be in good physical and mental health
Benefits

The selected scholars will receive the following benefits: 

  • Fully-funded scholarship (up to KRW* 5,000,000 per semester)
  • Airfare expenses of grantees 
  • Resettlement Allowance (up to KRW* 20,000)
  • Monthly living allowances of KRW* 350,000
  • Medical Insurance (free National Health Insurance)
  • KRW* 100,000 award to be given to students after degree completion

*KRW - South Korean Won

How can you apply?

Eligible candidates can apply for the opportunity by following the steps mentioned below -
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button.
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required details to register. (Note - If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email Id.)
Step 3: Click on the 'Apply Now' button and the candidate will be redirected to the official website of the Sakshat portal of MHRD.
Step 4: Select ‘Korean Government Scholarship Program’ and click on the apply button.
Step 5: Fill in the application form, attach all supporting documents and submit the online application.
Step 6: After the successful submission of the online application, download the application prescribed by the Korean government from its official website.
Step 7: Fill in all necessary details and attach the supporting documents.

Selection Criteria
  • The initial shortlisting of the applications for the Korean scholarship program is done by the MHRD. A merit list is prepared of all the applications received. 
  • The weightage is given to institutions of national importance/ centrally funded educational institutions (CEFIs) and NAAC accredited institutions from where the applicants have completed or are pursuing their qualifying examination.
  • A total of 15 applications are shortlisted which are further sent for nominations to the Korean Government. Thereafter, the Korean Government shortlists only 10 nominations for the award of scholarship.
Terms and Conditions
  • Universities oriented towards international students conduct 30% of their lectures in the English language.
  • Compared to undergraduate courses, most of the lectures for graduate programmes are conducted in English.
  • Students are advised to enrol in the Korean language to attain maximum information about their course. The scholarship award also covers language training courses.
  • Applicants submitting the scholarship application forms must fill it in either Korean or English to avoid registration cancellation.
  • All original documents are required to be submitted. In case students want to submit photocopies of their documents, those must be certified.
  • Employed applicants must obtain a 'No Objection Certificate' from their previous employer and in the case of a government employee, a cadre clearance is mandatorily required. 
  • Stating false facts in the application form or purposely hiding facts will lead to disqualification. 
  • The subject fields included in the program are: 
    • Korean Language and Literature 
    • International Relations (including Korean Studies) 
    • Biotechnology 
    • Electronic engineering
  • A total of 15 applicants will be selected out of which ten students will be awarded the scholarship by the Government of the Republic of Korea. 
  • There are 3 levels of study available through the scholarship constituting the Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral level studies.
