About The Program

Neiman Foundation is inviting applications from journalists, technologists, publishers, programmers, entrepreneurs, media analysts, academics and other research aspirants for Knight Visiting Nieman Fellowships 2020. It is a short-term fellowship that will be carried out in Harvard. The candidates must be able to demonstrate how their works at Harvard and the Nieman Foundation may improve the prospects of journalism's future. At least, 5 fellows will be seleted under this programme who will receive USD 1,350 weekly stipend and other benefits.

The candidates must fulfil the following criteria to apply:

  • The proposed project must have the potential to advance journalism and can be related to programming, design, research, financial strategies or another topic.
  • Journalists, entrepreneurs, technologists, publishers, designers, programmers, academics, media analysts and other research aspirants who wish to make an impact can apply for this fellowship.
  • No college degree is required.
  • Both US and international applicants can apply.
  • The applicants must be available to be in residence in Cambridge, Mass for the duration of the fellowship.
  • The candidates must have good command over the English language.
Benefits

At least 5 fellows will be selected under this programme who will receive -

  • A stipend of USD 1,350 per week (If the fellow is not supported by an employer during the fellowship)
  • Free use of a furnished one-bedroom apartment for the length of the fellowship (If a fellow does not reside in the Boston area or otherwise have accommodations)

Step 8: Fill in all required details and upload the supporting documents. 
Step 9: Submit the application.

Selection Criteria

The shortlisted applicants have to appear for a skype interview after which the final selections are made. 

Terms and Conditions
  • The 600-words essay must highlight:
    • "Which particular Harvard or local resources will be especially important and useful?
    • How, specifically, will the applicant use his/her fellowship time to advance the project?
    • What will be the end product or result of the applicant's fellowship?
    • How will the applicant's work benefit journalism?"
  • The fellowship may range between two and twelve weeks. 
  • The fellows can utilize the extensive resources at Harvard and MIT, including libraries, local scholars, and research centers. 
  • The fellows are required to share their progress and findings either through publication on one of the Nieman's in-house websites or through any other medium/format best-suited to the project.
