About The Program

The Library of Congress, Washington invites applications for Kluge Fellowships in Digital Studies from scholars of all disciplines. This fellowship aims to provide an opportunity for scholars to utilize digital methods, curatorial expertise, the Library’s large and varied digital collections and resources, and an emerging community of digital scholarship practitioners. Selected fellows will receive a stipend of USD 5,000 per month up to 11 months.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Be a scholar or practitioner worldwide
  • Be a US citizen or foreign national
  • Be a scholar from any discipline
  • Hold a PhD or other advanced terminal degree
Benefits

Documents
  • A curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages)
  • A complete project proposal, including:
    • A single-paragraph abstract
    • A statement of proposed research (maximum 3 pages)
    • An explanation of why the Library of Congress is the appropriate venue for your research and what collections you will utilize if any (maximum 1 paragraph)
    • Description of your technical approach and/or methodology (maximum 2 paragraphs)
    • A bibliography of works you have consulted for your proposal
  • Three references with completed reference forms from people who have read the research proposal

Selections will be based on the evaluation of the application materials.

  • Scholars should include a discussion of how the resources of the Library of Congress will inform the intended research.
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates whose projects demonstrate relevance to the challenges facing democracies in the 21st century.
  • All research proposals must state the importance of the research to fundamental thinking about the human condition.
