About The Program

Karnataka DST-Ph.D Fellowship for Science and Engineering 2022 is an opportunity offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of Karnataka to the candidates who have confirmed registration for a full-time Ph.D. course through the Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS) [an autonomous organization of DST, Govt. of Karnataka]. The selected candidates will receive INR 20,000 per month.

To be eligible, an applicant must -

  • be a citizen of India
  • be a domicile of Karnataka or should have studied at least for 6 years in Karnataka
  • be 35 years of age [Note - Up to 5 years age relaxation will be given in case of women/specially abled candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC)/Scheduled Tribes (ST).]
  • have confirmed Ph.D. registration for full-time under Ph.D. programme of any UGC/AICTE recognized University/Institution/College in Karnataka on or after 12th October 2020
  • have successfully completed the Ph.D. coursework
  • possess a master's degree or equivalent with at least 60% marks
Benefits

The selected candidates will receive INR 20,000 per month. The fellowship will be initially for one year and will be extended further for 2 more years based on progress. The maximum duration of the fellowship will not be more than 3 years.

Documents

The  candidates are required to submit the following documents in a single PDF file - 

  • Matriculation Certificate
  • Photograph and Signature
  • Karnataka Domicile Certificate or Study Certificate for at least 6 years Degree
  • Certificates – Marks cards of all the semesters followed by a convocation certificate
  • Postgraduate degree certificates - score cards of all the semesters followed by convocation certificate
  • NET/SLET/GATE/GPAT certificate
  • Ph.D. Registration Certificate
  • Ph.D. Course work marks card/completion certificate
  • Award letter for already availing fellowship from other agencies, if applicable
  • Specially abled certificate, if applicable 
  • SC/ST certificate, if applicable 
  • Declaration from Research supervisor in prescribed format (Signed copy on Institutional letterhead)
  • Certificate from Head of the Institution in prescribed format (Signed copy on Institutional letterhead)

Selection Criteria

The candidates will be selected based on the following criteria - 

  • Preference is given to candidates who have cleared the NET/SLET/GATE/GPAT exam.
  • A weightage of 20% will be provided for clearing NET and GATE/GPAT, whereas 10% will be provided for clearing SLET.
  • Merit list will be prepared based on the score in the qualifying exams (such as M.Sc., M.Engg. or M.Tech.) including the weightage to NET/SLET/GATE/GPAT.
  • The decision of the KSTePS/Selection Committee in matters of selection or for the award of Fellowships etc. will be final and binding on the candidate.

  • Merely fulfilling of eligibility criteria may not entitle a candidate to selection under the program.
  • KSTePS reserves the right to decide on the total number of fellowships.
  • The candidates who have written coursework examination and awaiting results are eligible to apply. However, they will be considered for selection only if they had successfully cleared the coursework before the selection process and intimated the same to KSTePS (through email or post).
  • Request for transfer of fellowship will not be entertained except on compelling circumstances for which the fellow & his/her guide should submit proper justification.
  • Fellowship will stand terminated from the date of resignation.
  • A minimum of 30% of the fellowships will be provided to female candidates, as the current scheme is identified under Gender Budget.
  • The candidates currently availing fellowship under any schemes of the State or Central Government or other agencies/institutions will opt for only one of the fellowships.
  • The fellows are not allowed to join another institute without seeking prior approval from KSTePS for "transfer of fellowship" and if they join elsewhere without the approval of KSTePS, their fellowship will be terminated.
  • The No Objection Certificate should be produced by the Candidate from the supervisor and Head of the Department of University/Institute from where the transfer is sought and consent of the Guide/Host Institute where Fellowship is sought to be transferred by giving reasons of transfer.
