The following applicants are eligible to apply for the scholarship program:
- Should have completed 11 years of schooling
- Should be applying for a college of technology in Japan
- Must be born on or after April 1995

Benefits
The selected scholar will receive the following benefits:
- An allowance of JPY 117,000 per month
- Supplemental regional allowance of up to JPY 3000
- Travelling expenses
- Transportation to and fro Japan

Documents
The following documents are required to be attached along with the application:
- Application Form for Direct Placement
- Self-attested copies of academic transcripts for the past 3 years
- Self-attested copy of the certificate of graduation/expected graduation
- A letter of recommendation from the principal or the adviser of the last school attended
- Health Examination Certificate
- Self-attested copy of the certificate of enrollment
- Certificate of University enrollment qualification examination
- 2 copies of the certificate of language proficiency (if applicable)

Step 2: Coordinate with the consulates to start an application procedure.
Step 3: Applicants from other states and UTs, click here to download the application form.
Step 4: Attach the necessary documents.
Step 5: Submit the application form along with the documents to the respective Japanese consulates.

- Dates for Written test/interview: 14th July 2019
- Notification of shortlisted applicants for written test/interview (on the official scholarship page): 21st June 2019
Selection Criteria
- The First Screening of the candidates will be done by the Japanese diplomatic missions based on the evaluation of submitted application documents, written academic examinations and interviews.
- Applicants who succeed to qualify the First Screening will be recommended to MEXT. The second screening of the applicants who are recommended and MEXT will then decide the scholarship holders from each course.
- The selected scholars will be informed of the final selection results by the Japanese diplomatic mission in the applicant’s country by the end of January 2020. The reasons for the results will not be disclosed. Any objections to the decision on the University of placement will be disregarded.

Important documents
Terms and Conditions
- The application will be disregarded if a scholar has made a false statement on his/her application.
- Grantees must enrol in National Health Insurance (Kokumin Kenko Hoken) upon arrival in Japan.
- The application will be dishonoured if an applicant violates any article of his/her pledge to the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
- The scholarship payments will be transferred to the bank account of Japan Post Bank (JP Bank) supposed to be opened by every grantee post-arrival in Japan.
- MEXT will not transfer the scholarship payments to other accounts.
- The English texts attached to the Application Guidelines and the Application Form are for complimentary use only. English expressions do not change the Japanese content.
