An applicant must -
- Be a current university student of engineering, industrial design and product design or a recent graduate in these subjects in last four years
- Be more than 18 years of age
Benefits
The award comprises -
- The national winner will receive a cash award of GBP 2,000
- The international runners-up will receive a cash award of GBP 5,000
- The international winners will receive a cash award of GBP 30,000. Also, the University of the international winner will receive GBP 5,000.

How can you apply?
Eligible candidates can enter the award online through following steps -
Step 2: Fill in all required details and upload the required documents to complete the registration.
Step 3: Once registered, the applicants will have to complete the online form providing a brief about their invention in English.
Step 4: Upload up to 5 images (maximum size 3 MB each) supporting the entry, including a feature image. The applicants can also opt for submitting a video of less than 3 minutes (if available).
Step 5: Finally submit the entries.

- The announcement of National winners and finalists: 5 September 2018
- The announcement of shortlisted Dyson engineers: 21 September 2018
- The announcement of International winner: 18 October 2018
Selection Criteria
Entries can be submitted online either in a team or individually -
Stage 1: Selection of up to five entries from the applicant's country or region to progress to the next stage out of which one national winner will be announced.
Stage 2: The next stage involves the shortlisting of 20 entries by a panel of Dyson engineers out of the entries chosen by national judges. They will analyse how well the entries have answered the brief keeping the commercial viability in focus.
Stage 3: The last stage involves the review of final 20 entries by James Dyson followed by the selection of grand prize winners and two runners-up.
Terms and Conditions
- The feature image to be uploaded should be of high quality with a minimum size of 1440 px X 810 px. It should be showing the final product design of the applicant.
- The applicant can share the early sketches, initial prototypes, CAD renderings and an image of the finished product (if available).
