- The applicant has to answer the following questions in his/her submission:
- What does “Kindness” mean to you?
- How do you think we can create a kinder society?
- The applicant should carry out 10 acts of kindness, and then use his/her experience as inspiration in writing the essay (the essay itself does not need to be about the applicant's acts of kindness).
- As a special edition, this year’s contest involves action in addition to writing, so that participating in the contest directly contributes to creating a better world. Please note, however, that only the essay itself will be considered in the selection process.
- The essay must be 700 words or less in English, French, Spanish or German, or 1600 characters or less in Japanese, excluding essay title and cover page.
- The essays may be typed or printed.
- Entries submitted by postal mail must include a cover page indicating the following:
- Applicants name
- Category (Children or Youth)
- Age as of June 15, 2019
- Gender
- Nationality
- Address
- Phone number
- School name (if applicable)
- Essay title

- List of ten acts of kindness that the applicant has performed (describe briefly).
