About the Program

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation invites applications for International Climate Protection Fellowship 2020, Germany from researchers who are working in the field of climate protection or related fields. The fellowship aims to enable prospective leaders in academia and industry to implement a research-based proposal in the field of climate protection. Selected fellows will get a monthly fellowship ranging from EUR 2,170 to 2,670 and several other benefits.

    To be eligible, an applicant must:

    • Have a first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent), completed less than 12 years previously, counting back from the end of the application period (1 March 2020)
    • Demonstrate leadership skills
    • Have extensive work experience (at least 48 months at the time of application) or a successfully completed doctorate in the field of climate protection or climate-related resource conservation
    • Be a future leader from a non-European transition or developing country
    • Be active in any of the following areas: scientific, engineering-based, legal, economic, health-related or social aspects of climate change
    • Have a very good knowledge of English and/or German
    • Have scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals (for postdoctoral applicants)
    • A monthly fellowship between EUR 2,170 to 2,670
    • Individual mentoring during the stay in Germany
    • Allowance for research costs

  • The amount of award includes a mobility lump sum and a contribution to health and liability insurance.
  • Fellowships may be extended by up to three months if children under the age of 12 accompany the fellow to Germany.
