To be eligible, an applicant must -
- Be a citizen of India
- Be a young scientist below 40 years of age as of December 31 of the preceding year of the award
Benefits
The selected 40 awardees will receive an honorarium of INR 1 lakh each, a medal, and a certificate (one-time).
The presentation of medals to selected awardees will be made by the President, INSA during the Anniversary General Meeting of the Academy in December. The candidates called for presenting their work before the Sectional Committees will be entitled to II AC return rail fare and local conveyance as applicable.
Documents
- A self-attested scanned copy of a certificate of age
- Summarized research (Note - If part of the work has been done abroad, please indicate the work done abroad and the work done in India.)
- A brief statement, not exceeding 500 words, highlighting the research contribution for which the INSA medal for young scientists is recommended by the proposer
- List of publications and/or patents of the nominee; Please mark five most significant publications with an asterisk (*). The information must be provided under three heads -
- Published papers
- Papers accepted for publication
- Papers accepted for presentation at the conference

Selection Criteria
The Council will select candidates for the award based on the reports received from the Conveners of Sectional Committees at the meeting in the month of August/September.
The candidates will be nominated by fellows of the Indian National Science Academy, previous recipients of the INSA Medal for Young Scientists, Fellows of national academies, faculty members of universities and institutes and scientists at research institutes and national laboratories.
The research carried out in India independently by the nominees will be taken into consideration for the award.

Terms and Conditions
- Reimbursement will be made on the production of supporting documents.
- All the valid nominations, based on the subject area of the work, will be considered by the respective sectional committees of the academy.
- The academy would bring out a brochure containing the contributions of the young scientists for the award at the time of the presentation of the award.
- The names of the young scientists selected for the award by the Council will be announced at the Ordinary General Meeting in the month of July and subsequently communicated to the awardees/fellows.
