An applicant must -
- Be a citizen of India
- Hold either a first-class bachelor's (honours) degree or a first class master's degree, preferably both
- Have a confirmed registration in PhD programme in Humanities and Social Science at a recognised Indian Institute for at least two years but not more than four years.
- Be below 35 years of age as on 31 December 2018
Benefits
The grant offers financial support for a maximum period of 3 months at an institution/university/library abroad. The grant covers -
- Airfare
- Maintenance expenses
- Funds for purchasing books and materials and making copies of relevant literature
Documents
- The sample of written work in about 3000-5000 words on the subject of candidate's research. It should preferably be a draft containing full annotations, documentation and details like the reading list, surveys and other work done towards the thesis.
- Proof of communication with concerned persons or institutions abroad and having received a positive response.
- A written and signed statement from the applicant's supervisor stating his/her ability, focus and progress in the work done under his supervision, his/her need to go abroad and that he/she cannot manage funds from any other source.
- Two letters of reference out of which one should be from the supervisor.
- Two copies of application form

Selection Criteria
The students will be selected for the grant through a two-stage selection procedure that includes -
- Shortlisting of candidates on the basis of the written record submitted by them.
- Shortlisted candidates will have to go through a personal interview for the final selection.

Terms and Conditions
- The grant awarded to students must be utilised within the nine months of the date of award.
- The students are required to furnish the evidence of major expenses like library fees, lodging, buying books, etc.
- All material (including books, copies, instrument, etc.) collected by the candidates will become the property of his/her institution for wider use by future scholars.
- All such material should contain a statement regarding the support received from Inlaks Research Travel Grant.
