To be eligible, the candidate must be:
- A citizen of India, presently living in India.
- Holding a confirmed Ph.D. registration for at least two years but not more than four years.
- Either a bachelor's (Honours) or master's degree holder, preferably both, with first class.
- Under the age of 35 years as on 31 December 2018.
Benefits
The selected candidates receive financial assistance for a period of maximum 3 months at King’s College London. The research grant covers:
- Airfare (booked by Inlaks on behalf of the student)
- Maintenance expenses for up to USD 1750 per month
- Up to USD 1000 for buying materials and books, and making copies of relevant literature
Documents
- An updated resume in PDF format (maximum 2 pages)
- A sample of written work on applicant’s research subject. The work should be a draft of a chapter of the Ph.D. thesis carrying details regarding the reading list, surveys, or any other work done towards the thesis. It should be full of annotation and documentation and must be of 3000-5000 words.
- A recommendation letter from the applicant's current supervisor stating:
- Applicant's focus, ability and progress in the work done under her/his supervision
- Applicant's need to go abroad
- That the fund for abroad visit cannot be obtained from any other source

Selection Criteria
The selection procedure consists of two stages:
- Firstly, applicants are shortlisted for the 2nd round on the basis of the written record submitted by the applicants.
- The shortlisted candidates then undergo a round of personal interview, which may take place face to face (if feasible), or over Skype.

- The research grant will be offered for the subjects of Humanities and Social Sciences.
- The selected candidates must apply formally to the King’s India Institute as a Visiting Research Student through the King’s College London application procedure for the duration of the grant.
- A staff member of King’s India Institute will stand as the supervisor of the candidate during his/her stay at King’s.
- The selected candidate must apply for a Short-term Study visa for the duration of his/her study at King’s.
