About The Program

India Netherlands Hydrogen Fellowship Programme 2026 is an opportunity offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. It aims to strengthen the skilled workforce and technical expertise required to support the development and implementation of India’s emerging hydrogen economy. Selected candidates will receive up to €2,000 per month.

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be an Indian national
  • be working in the field of engineering science, basic science, social and humanities, economics and finance, public policy, or safety engineering
  • have a Master’s degree/PhD/Postdoctoral (in science, technology) from a recognised university/institute
  • hold a conditional acceptance letter from the University of Groningen confirming the willingness to host the proposed research under specified areas

Note:-

  • Experience in hydrogen energy technology will be advantageous.
  • Applicants who have already been awarded a PhD degree, or who are within 8 months of their expected PhD thesis submission date, are ineligible.
Benefits

Selected candidates will receive:-

  • Doctoral: €1,500 per month (DST) with an add-on of €375 per month (University of Groningen)
  • Postdoctoral: €2,000 per month (DST)

Selection Criteria

Applicants must secure a conditional acceptance from the host institution (University of Groningen, Netherlands) before applying. Selection follows a two-tier process by DST–NEAC: Tier I screens applications for compliance, research quality, relevance to India’s hydrogen priorities, applicant preparedness, and document authenticity. Tier II involves presentation and technical interaction, assessing knowledge, feasibility, innovation, and impact. Final recommendations are made by NEAC, with DST holding the ultimate decision.
