About The Program

IIM Calcutta Fellow Program 2019 invites applications from candidates with proven academic backgrounds, who have the intellect, interest, and ingenuity to pursue doctoral studies in management sciences and related disciplines. Applicants must possess the ability, motivation, and discipline to sustain themselves in a rigorous doctoral program for four-to-five years.

To be eligible for the fellowship, an applicant must: 

  • Have a First Class Master's degree in any discipline, or CA with minimum 50% marks, or CS/CMA with minimum 55% marks and a three-year Bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks in the aggregate; OR Have a First Class Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in either the Secondary or the Higher Secondary Examination of a Board (or equivalent)

Note: Non-engineering candidates who have undergone 10+2+5 years, and CMA(USA) candidates are also eligible. A final-year student appearing for the Bachelor's degree examination in Engineering or Master's degree examination in any discipline can also apply.

In addition, an applicant needs to have taken the Common Admission Test (CAT) in 2018 OR, depending on chosen specialization(s), alternative test(s) in lieu of the CAT as specified (GMAT/GRE/UGC-NET/UGC-JRF). 

Note: A PGDM/PGDCM holder of any of the IIMs with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00/9.00 and above (or equivalent) does not need to take any Admission Test.

 

Benefits
  • Each selected fellow receives a monthly stipend (INR 30,000 to INR 35,000).
  • Contingency grants of up to INR 65,000 for the first year of study, and of up to INR 25,000 per year for subsequent years are also made available
  • Additional financial support is available in the form of extra funds of up to INR 50,000 for field research
  • Fellows can also take up teaching assistantships as and when available, that pay up to INR 11,000 per month (in addition to the stipend)

Note: The stipend and contingency grants are given for four years, and can be extended for up to one more year on demonstration of satisfactory progress in dissertation work.

Documents

Applicants should upload any published or unpublished research work they may have completed. If the entire document cannot be uploaded, abstracts or summaries can be uploaded instead.

Q. What is the IIM Calcutta Fellow Program?
A. FPM is Fellow Programme in Management offered by IIM Calcutta. It is a full-time doctoral programme. On successful completion of the Programme, a student is awarded the title of a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta in his/her area of specialization. The title is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities and by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, as being equivalent to a PhD degree of an accredited university.

Q. Can foreign students or NRIs apply for the programme?
A. Yes, foreign students or NRIs can apply for the programme.

Q. Is there any exemption to the application fee?
A. An SC/ST/OBC/PWD applicant need not pay the application fee provided (s) he has to upload the attested photocopy of his/her SC/ST/OBC/PWD certificate along with the online application.

Q. Who can write recommendations for me?
A. Usually a faculty member from the last institute attended can write a recommendation for applicants. For working professionals it could be the superior of the candidate, who can elaborate on his/her research capabilities, can write letters of recommendation. In the case of self-employed applicants, an industry expert who knows you or a fellow professional can write a recommendation for you.

Q. Is there any upper age limit to applying for the programme?
A. There is no upper age limit to applying for the Fellow Programme.
