About The Program

The HRD Short Term and Long Term Fellowship Abroad 2026 is launched by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, Department of Health Research. It is part of the Human Research Development (HRD) scheme, which aims to develop skilled health researchers through advanced training and global collaboration in emerging medical and clinical sciences. Selected fellows will receive $3,000 per month with other benefits.

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be a citizen of India working in the country
  • be below 57 years (Short Term) or 45 years (Long Term) of age as of the application deadline
  • possess an M.D./ M.S./ M.D.S./DNB degree, OR
  • MBBS/BDS/
    MVSc./ M.Sc./M.Pharma/M.Tech or equivalent with Ph.D. in health /biomedical research
  • have three years of experience in teaching at a recognised institute
  • submit a letter of acceptance from the host Institute where they propose to work during the fellowship
  • submit a proposed plan of training for availing the fellowship
  • have not availed of any similar fellowship from any of the agencies by the government of India in the last three years

Note: Applicants from private institutions must submit a letter from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Benefits

Selected fellows will receive:-

  • A stipend of $3,000 per month.
  • Return economy-class airfare.
  • Contingency reimbursable grant on submission of original receipts/bills:
    • Up to ₹75,000 (includes the cost of visa, SEVIS fee, taxi charges from the place of duty to the airport and back).
    • Up to ₹20,000 (for overseas med claim insurance expenses).

Note: Air ticket booking should be done through government-authorised travel agents only.

How can you apply?

Eligible applicants can apply by following these steps:-
Step 1:
Click on the ‘Apply Now’ button on the official portal.
Step 2: Click the ‘Register’ button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID.)
Step 3: Click ‘Register Now’, fill in all required details and register by clicking ‘Submit’.
Step 4: After successful registration, log in with valid credentials.
Step 5: Fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents and submit the application.
