About The Program

Vienna University of Technology – Technische Universität Wien (Tu Wien) and the Wolfgang Pauli Institute invites applications for Helmut Veith Stipend, Austria 2020 from outstanding female students who wish to pursue a master's course in computer science. This stipend is dedicated to Computer Scientist Helmut Veith who passed away in 2016 and throughout his life has played an instrumental role in mentoring females pursuing studies computer science. An annual reward of EUR 6,000 will be awarded under this scheme along with the tuition fee waiver.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Be a female pursuing or willing to pursue a Master’s program in Computer Science at TU Wien taught in the English language
  • Fulfil the eligibility conditions to get admission at TU Wien
  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or any equivalent field
  • Have extensive knowledge and interest in Professor Veith’s areas of research, namely -
    • Logic in Computer Science
    • Foundations of Artificial Intelligence
    • Formal Methods and Verification
    • Computer Security
    • Complexity Theory 
  • Be proficient in the English language

Benefits

An annual stipend of EUR 6,000 will be granted to the recipient along with a full tuition fee waiver.

Documents

Following documents are required to be submitted in the application:

  • Updated CV
  • Cover letter describing the funding type applied for
  • Letter of motivation explaining the applicant’s reasons to apply for the course and how the funding will help them
  • University examination reports
  • Copies of diplomas/ certificates/ degrees (stamped copies of all the certificates is required)
  • Contact details of 2 references who will be contacted for obtaining letters of recommendation
  • English language certificate (TOEFL or any equivalent test result)
  • A copy of the applicant’s passport

Note: Applicants are required to provide a certified translation in case the documents provided by them are not in either German or English language.

Selection Criteria

The applications will be assessed based on the academic performance and applicant’s interests in relevant areas of research.

Terms and Conditions
  • Recipient must maintain good academic performance throughout the course.
  • They must obtain at least 25 ECTS credit term in each semester since the beginning of the master’s program.
  • They must also obtain an average grade of at most 1.5.
  • The recipient is required to stay in Austria throughout the course. However, they may relocate on a temporary basis for internship or research visits after taking necessary approvals.
  • The stipend will be provided for the duration of the course i.e. up to 2 years.
