About The Program

Heinrich Böll Foundation, The Green Political Foundation invites applications for Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships 2020 Graduate students. It is aimed to award the scholarships to German and foreign graduate students in accordance with the guidelines issued by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Foreign office. Selected students will receive a basic scholarship of up to EUR 850 per month and several other allowances.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Have completed a Master’s degree 
  • Have proof of professional qualification
Benefits

Non-EU students who have not educated in Germany will get EUR 850 per month plus various individual allowances.

  • CV
  • Copy of University entrance qualification or equivalent
  • A list of study certificates to date 
  • Certified copy of the first-degree certificate
  • Student enrolment certificate 
  • Written proof of German language proficiency 
  • Work samples
  • A third-party reference on thee social commitment (1-2 pages)
  • An expert reference from a university or college lecturer, or for secondary-level students, from a schoolteacher 
  • Residence permit for refugees

  • Interview with liaison lecturer: Mid-May 2020
  • Selection workshops: June/July 2020
  • Notification of scholarship award: July 2020 
  • Probable commencement of scholarship payments: 01st October 2020
Selection Criteria

Selection of the scholarship applicants involves three stages – 

  • Submission of written application documents
  • An interview with a liaison lecturer (telephone interviews may also be held)
  • Attendance at a selection workshop in Berlin consisting of a one-to-one interview and a group discussion

  • References sent to the Heinrich Böll Foundation by the referees directly should reach the foundation by the respective application deadline.
  • Personal and expert references by university lecturers must contain the referee’s original signature. This does not apply in case the referee sends the document directly to the Heinrich Böll Foundation by e-mail.
  • All documents have to be provided in German (however, the foundation also accept personal reference, expert references and exposé in English)
