To be eligible, an applicant must -
- Be an Indian citizen
- Be below 40 years of age (Note - Age limit is relaxable by three years for OBC-NCL(non-creamy layer) and by five years for SC/ST applicants. Persons with Disability (PWD) of all categories are eligible for further age relaxation of 10 years.)
- Be born on or after August 1, 1993
- Hold an M.E./M.Tech. or equivalent postgraduate degree in Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Metallurgical/Materials, Nuclear Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks
Note - The ‘qualifying 60% marks’ should be as per the ordinances of the respective degree awarding university OR equivalent of cumulative grade point average CGPA (converted to % Marks by multiplying with 100/x if the CGPA is on x points scale).
Benefits
The selected candidate will receive an emolument of INR 60,000 per month (Rupees Sixty Thousand only) besides house rent allowance and medical benefits as per rules. An annual contingency grant of INR 40,000 is also available for all expenses related to the Ph.D. problem.

Selection Criteria
The selection of the candidates will be made based on applicants who fulfil the eligibility criteria will appear in a written Screening Exam to be held at multiple centres across India on March 21, 2021 (tentative). The candidates will be shortlisted for Selection Interview based on performance in the screening test as well as on previous academic records.

- One has to make own arrangements for accommodation.
- The fellowship under DDFS is tenable for three years.
- Any further extension is based on the progress made in the Ph.D. programme and the recommendations of the Competent Authority.
- In any case, no extension will be given beyond five years.
