About The Program

The Higher Education Authority (HEA), Government of Ireland invites applications for Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships 2020 from bachelor's, master's and PhD students. The aim of this scholarship is to support one year of study at Bachelor, Master or PhD levels to successful candidates who have an offer of a place at an eligible Irish higher education institution. Selected students will get EUR 10,000 for one year study and full tuition fee waiver benefit.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Be a high calibre student from non-EU/EEA countries
  • Have received an offer of a place with an eligible Irish higher education institution for
    • The final year of an undergraduate program
    • One year of a taught masters degree program
    • One year of a research program (i.e. one year of a 2-year research master or a 3-4-year PhD program)
Benefits

A total of 60 scholars will be selected for this scholarship. The selected students will receive the following benefits -

  • EUR 10,000 stipend for one year’s study
  • A full fee waiver of all tuition and other registration costs at the higher education institution

Selection Criteria

The final selection will be based on the following criteria -

  • Academic achievements and work experience (40 marks)
  • Personal statement (45 marks)
  • Two references (15 marks)

  • Only applications that meet a minimum threshold can be considered for the awarding of a scholarship (60 of 100 marks).
  • Priority will be given to students who are in the process of applying to come to Ireland for the academic year 2020-21.
  • Successful scholars (and HEIs) will be required to meet HEA reporting requirements and will be required to participate in a small number of scholarship events (e.g. HEA formal awarding of scholarships / welcome event, national promotion activities).
  • The HEA will advise the applicants and the HEIs of the outcome of the evaluation process by 1 June 2020.
  • Payment of the scholarship fund is wholly subject to the continued receipt of funding by the Department of Education and Skills.
