About The Program

The U.S. Department of State and IREX invites applications for Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program 2018 from outstanding secondary level school teachers. The fellowship program will be a six-week nondegree, noncredit academic program at a U.S. University. The objective of this program is to provide a professional development opportunity to the teachers.

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

In order to be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Be a school teacher of 6th to 12th grades in a school located in India.
  • Have five years of teaching experience in subjects like Social Studies, Science, English, mathematics, Special Education or English as a Foreign Language (EFL).
  • Hold a bachelor's as well as teacher training degree.
  • Be residing in India during form submission and interview.
  • Have scored at least 61 on iBT TOEFL and 450 on paper-based TOEFL or equivalent in English language examination. 

Note:

  • The applicant must be living and teaching in the states like Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
  • The applicant must commit to continuing teaching after completion of the program.

Terms and Conditions

Award details:

The fellowship will cover:

  • A pre-departure orientation held in participant’s home country.
  • J-1 visa support.
  • A Welcome Program at the host university.
  • Round-trip airfare to and within the U.S.
  • Housing (generally shared with other program fellows) and meals.
  • Academic program fees.
  • Transportation to the practicum school (if necessary).
  • Accident and sickness medical insurance coverage (does not cover pre-existing conditions).
  • A professional development allowance.
  • A daily allowance for incidentals during the university academic program.
  • An end-of-program workshop in Washington, D.C., and
  • The opportunity to apply for alumni small grants for alumni in good standing.
  • A baggage allowance.​​
