About The Program

Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowships 2017 invites Indian faculty and researchers who are in the early stages of their research careers. It provide opportunities to strengthen the research capacities. It is a eight to twenty-four months period in which fellows have access to resources in the areas of interest and will help build long-term collaborative relationships with U.S. faculty and institutions. Applications are invited for the following fields only: Agricultural Sciences; Bioengineering; Computer Science; Economics; Education Policy and Planning; Energy Studies; International Law; International Security and Strategic Studies; Materials Science; Neurosciences; Public Policy; Public Health; Study of India; Study of the U.S; Urban and Regional Planning; and Women’s and Gender Studies.

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed
  • The application must have a Ph.D degree within the past four years.
  • The applicants paper must be published in any reputed journals and demonstrate evidence of superior academic and professional achievement.
  • If the applicant is employed, please read instructions regarding employer’s endorsement. In this case applicants must have to submit application that leave will be granted during the fellowship period.

Timeline and Placement Process

  • Application due date for 2018-2019 awards: July 17, 2017
  • Field-specific experts review applications to short-list candidates: August-September 2017
  • National interviews of short-listed candidates in Delhi: Mid-October 2017
  • USIEF notifies principal and alternate nominees that they are recommended: Late-October 2017
  • USIEF forwards applications of recommended candidates to the U.S. for J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB) approval and placement: December 2017
  • USIEF notifies finalists: March-April 2018
  • Pre-Departure Orientation: May-June 2018
  • Program begins: August-September 2018
