The Directorate of Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration invites applications from meritorious students belonging to Scheduled Castes or Other Backward Classes for the Free Education Scheme for SC & OBC Students (Chandigarh) 2018-19. Students who have passed their class 12 or qualifying examinations from Chandigarh, and are pursuing one of the prescribed courses, are eligible to apply for the scholarship and receive tuition fee reimbursement up to INR 30000 as well as other benefits.

DeadlineClosed Eligibility The candidate must fulfil the following eligibility criteria for the scholarship:
- He/she should belong to any caste declared as Scheduled Caste or Other Backward Class for the UT, Chandigarh
- The total annual family income of parents shall not exceed INR 2,50,000
- He/she should have passed +2 or qualifying examination in first attempt form any School/College in UT, Chandigarh with minimum of 50% marks
- He/she should have studied in UT, Chandigarh for at least two academic sessions.
- Parents of the student should be bona fide residents of UT, Chandigarh for the past three years.
- He/she should have been admitted to any of the following courses: MBBS, BDS, BVSc, BAMS, DHMS, B.E., B/Architecture, Bachelor of Fine Arts, B. Pharmacy, B. Sc (Nursing), Degree/Diploma in Hotel Management, Degree/Diploma in Laboratory Technology, B. Ed, M. Ed., LLB, LLM, MBA, MCA
Benefits Selected scholars shall receive the following benefits as part of the scholarship:
- A lumpsum annual allowance of INR 5,000/- payable in one instalment at the start of the academic session.
- Full reimbursement of tuition fees up to a maximum of INR 30,000/- and other non-refundable charges payable to the institution.
- A monthly pocket allowance of INR 500/- for day students.
- A monthly allowance of INR 1,000/- for hostellers.
- For students taking admission in cities other than Chandigarh, reimbursement of actual journey fare will be admissible thrice in one academic year provided fare for to and fro journey by ordinary bus or ordinary class rail does not exceed INR 150/-
- Minimum essential books and stationery.
- Any other allowance considered necessary by the administration from time to time
Documents The following documents are required of the applicant:
- Certificates and mark sheets for the qualifying examination
- Proof of Residence (3 years)
- Proof of date of birth
- Receipt of fees (original)
- Caste Certificate
- Proof of Income
- Copy of Aadhar Enabled Account Number with IFSC code and Copy of Aadhar Card
- Affidavit (not taking any scholarship from Govt. and have not got any Compartment in +2 and during the course
- Attested photocopy of I-Card of Candidate and one photograph
How can you apply? Follow the below steps to apply for the scholarship:
- Step 1: Download the application form
- Step 2: Print and fill it in the prescribed format
- Step 3: Attach all supporting documents
- Step 4: Send in the application to the Office of the Director, Higher Education, UT, Chandigarh on or before the prescribed date
Important Dates
The last date for submission of completed applications is September 30, 2018.
Selection Criteria
Selection of beneficiaries shall be done by a Committee headed by the Secretary Education, UT., Chandigarh, the Director Social Welfare, Union Territory, Chandigarh, and Director Higher Education (C), UT., Chandigarh as its members.

Terms and Conditions
- If at any time after the payment is made to the student, it is proved, after an enquiry that the student has got the benefit by misrepresentation of facts or submitting false documents, the benefit shall be discontinued forthwith and the entire amount paid shall be recovered.
- Benefit shall also be discontinued if the students fail in a particular year or his/her performance is not found up to the mark by the Committee and the student discontinues the course of study.
- It shall be obligatory for the students to intimate any change of address to the Director, Higher Education, UT., Chandigarh.
- The Chandigarh Administration can at any time, relax or change any of the above conditions from time to time. Any interpretation or clarification subsequently required can only be issued by the Secretary Education, Chandigarh Administration.
