Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Research Fellowship (BANRF) 2018, Maharashtra invites applications from students belonging to SC category of Maharashtra state who are willing to pursue an M.Phil/PhD programme. The key objective of the fellowship is to provide financial assistance to eligible students to pursue full-time M.Phil/PhD programme in Indian Institutions/ Universities/ Colleges approved by UGC.

    Eligibility
    An applicant must -
    • Be a domicile of Maharashtra state
    • Belong to SC category
    • Be applying for a full-time and regular M.Phil/PhD programme in any subject from an Indian University/Institution/College approved by UGC with registration/admission date on or after 20 July 2017 to 10 December 2018.
    • Have passed the postgraduation in any discipline
    • Not be more than 40 years of age as on 10 December 2018
    • Have an annual family income of less than INR 6 Lakh
    Benefits
    A total of 105 fellowships will be disbursed this year that includes -
    • Fellowship of INR 25,000 per month for 1 to 2 years (for M.Phil Student)
    • Fellowship of INR 25,000 per month for 1st and 2nd year (for PhD students) as Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
    • Fellowship of INR 28,000 per month for the third year subject to providing an up-gradation certificate (for PhD students) as Senior Research Fellowship (SRF)
    • A contingency grant of INR 10,000 per annum for initial first and second year and INR 20,500 per annum for the third year (for Humanities and Social Sciences stream)
    • A contingency grant of INR 12,000 per annum for initial first and second year and INR 25,000 per annum for the third year (for Sciences, Engineering and Technology stream)
    • Reader/Escorts assistance of INR 2,000 per month (for physically disabled candidates only)
    • HRA (House Rent Allowance) as the norms of Government of Maharashtra.

    How can you apply?
    Eligible candidates can apply for the fellowship online through following steps -
    Step 1: Visit the official website of BARTI.
    Step 3: Click on "New User? Register Here". 
    Step 4: Fill in all required details and submit to register.
    Step 5: Once registered, the applicants will receive a verification link on their registered email id. 
    Step 6: Log in using the registered username and password. 
    Step 7: Read the terms and conditions and click on the "I agree" box and submit.
    Step 8: Fill in all mandatory details.
    Step 9: Upload all supporting documents.
    Step 10: Finally, submit the application form.  
Selection Criteria
The fellows are selected in following phases -
  • Scrutiny and shortlisting of applications by BARTI
  • Preparation of merit list by giving 25% weightage to marks obtained in graduation and 75% weightage to marks obtained in post graduation
  • Written test and verification of original documents
  • Interview
  • Recommendation of applicants for selection
  • Final selection
Terms and Conditions
  • The students who have not registered for M.Phil/PhD programme and the students who have already taken benefit under this fellowship are not eligible to apply.
  • Once the original document verification process is completed, the applicants have to attempt a written test comprising 50 objective type questions carrying 1 mark each in 30 minutes duration. 
  • There is no provision of negative marking in the written test. 
  • The test will comprise questions based on Social thinkers, social awareness, research methodology, statistics, logical reasoning, aptitude and general knowledge. 
  • The interview is conducted based on following points carrying 10 marks each - 
    • Proposal writing 
    • Literature review
    • Understanding and knowledge of proposed research subject 
    • Communication skills
    • Research methodology and presentation
