About The Program

Dr. Ambedkar Post-Matric Scholarship for EBC Students, Andaman and Nicobar 2024-25, is a Government of India initiative under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It aims to financially assist Economically Backward Class (EBC) students from the Union Territory pursuing higher studies beyond Class 10. Selected students receive a monthly maintenance allowance of up to ₹750 and other benefits.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • be Indian national
  • be domiciled in Andaman and Nicobar
  • be an Indian national belonging to the General category (not SC, ST, or OBC)
  • have a combined annual parental/guardian income of not more than ₹1,00,000 (for unemployed candidates)
  • not be receiving any other scholarship or stipend

Note:- 

  • Applicants who have already completed a degree or equivalent qualification in one field are ineligible for this scholarship if currently enrolled in another degree program of the same level (e.g., Bachelor's to Bachelor's, Master's to Master's) in a different subject.
  • Students who have completed a career path in one professional field, such as obtaining a law degree (LLB) after completing a teaching qualification (B.T./B.Ed.), are ineligible for this scholarship.
  • Students pursuing postgraduate courses in medicine are eligible if not permitted to practice during their studies.
  • Students transitioning from undergraduate/postgraduate studies in Arts, Science, or Commerce to recognised professional or technical certificate/diploma/degree courses may be considered for the scholarship. However, once awarded, no further failures (except in 'Group 1' courses) are permitted, and course changes are not allowed.
  • A scholarship holder under this scheme cannot hold any other scholarship or stipend. If awarded another scholarship or stipend, the student must choose one and inform the awarding authority through the Head of the Institution. No scholarship will be paid under this scheme from the date the student accepts another scholarship or stipend. However, the student may receive free lodging, a grant, or ad-hoc monetary assistance from the State Government or other sources for books, equipment, or living expenses, in addition to this scholarship.
  • Students receiving coaching with financial assistance from the Central or State Government are ineligible for a stipend under this scheme during the coaching program.
  • Employed students whose combined income with their parents/guardians does not exceed ₹1,00,000 per annum are eligible for post-matric scholarships to cover compulsory, non-refundable fees.
  • Unemployed students whose parents/guardians have a combined income of less than ₹1,00,000 per annum are eligible for this scholarship scheme.
  • As long as either parent (or husband in the case of a married, unemployed female student) is alive, only their income from all sources will be considered. Income from other family members will not be included. Income should be declared accordingly in the income declaration form. Only if both parents (or the husband of a married, unemployed female student) have died will the income of the student's guardian be considered. Students whose parent's income is reduced due to the unfortunate death of an earning parent, resulting in eligibility under the scheme, may apply for a scholarship from the month of the parent's death. Such applications may be considered after the application deadline on compassionate grounds.
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA) received by a student's parents may be excluded from income calculation if it is eligible for income tax exemption.
Benefits

The scholarship value includes a maintenance allowance, reader charges for blind students, reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees, study tour charges, thesis typing/printing charges, and a book allowance for correspondence course students for the entire course duration, as detailed below:-

Note:- Scholars who are entitled to free boarding and/or lodging will be paid maintenance chargers at 1/3rd of the hostellers' rate.

The blind scholars will be given an additional amount as 'Readers Charges' as mentioned below:-

  • Fees:- Scholars will be paid enrolment/registration, tuition, games, union, library, magazine, medical examination, and such other fees compulsorily payable by the scholar to the institution or university/board. Refundable deposit-like caution money and security deposits will, however, be excluded.
  • Study tour:- The study tour charges up to a maximum of ₹900 limited to the actual expenditure incurred will be paid to the student studying professional and technical courses.
  • Thesis typing/Printing charges:- Thesis typing/Printing charges up to a maximum of ₹1,000 will be paid to research scholars on the recommendation of the Head of the Institution.
  • Students who pursue their studies through correspondence courses will be eligible for reimbursement of a non-refundable fee. The term correspondence includes distant and continuing education.
  • Besides reimbursement of non-refundable fees, such students will also be eligible for an annual allowance of ₹900 essential/prescribed books, as applicable.

How can you apply?

Eligible applicants can apply for the scholarship through the following steps:-
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below. 
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: Navigate to the 'Students' option on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 4: Now, click on the 'Login' button under the OTR option as it is required to apply for a scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Step 5: Click on the 'New user? Register yourself' on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 6: Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox, and click on the 'Next' button.
Step 7: Enter a functional mobile number, captcha code, and OTP, then submit to complete the registration process.
Step 8: Fill in the required details and click on 'Save & Register' to complete the 'One-time registration (OTR)' process. (Note:- This is a temporary registration number, students need to download the OTR mobile application for face authentication to complete the OTR process.)
Step 9: After successful registration, navigate to the 'Apply for Scholarship' option and click on the 'Login' button.
Step 10: Select the scholarship, fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents and submit.

Note:- All the applicants are advised to fill in the information correctly on the application form.  Once the application is submitted, no changes can be made. Additionally, submitting multiple applications will result in disqualification.

  • A maximum of two males from the same family are eligible for this scholarship.
  • There is no such restriction for females; multiple daughters from the same family may receive scholarships.
  • Scholarship recipients receiving financial assistance from the Central or State Government for coaching at pre-examination training centers are ineligible for a stipend under this scheme during the coaching period.
  • Employed students whose combined income with their parent(s)/guardian(s) does not exceed ₹1,00,000 per annum are eligible for post-matric scholarships to cover compulsory, non-refundable fees.
  • Students enrolled in Class 11 of Higher Secondary School or Class 12 of Multipurpose High School are ineligible for this scholarship as their studies are considered a continuation of secondary education. However, if the Class 12 examination is recognized as equivalent to matriculation, students can subsequently enrol in other courses and become eligible for the post-matriculation scholarship.

 

For Renewal of Scholarship:-

  • The scholarship, once awarded, will continue until the recipient completes the course, provided they maintain good conduct and regular attendance.
  • The scholarship may be renewed annually within the same program, even if it spans multiple years, as long as the recipient progresses to the next higher level. This applies regardless of the program's assessment method.
  • Students in Group A courses under the EBC scholarship may have their award renewed after one failed attempt. Subsequent failures will result in scholarship termination. Students must cover their own expenses until progressing to the next higher level.
  • If a recipient cannot take the annual exam due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, the scholarship may be extended for the next academic year. This requires a medical certificate or other supporting evidence from the Head of the Institution, certifying that the student would have passed if they had been able to take the exam.
  • Students promoted to a higher class without passing all previous exams may still be eligible for the scholarship in the new class, provided they meet other requirements and comply with university/institution regulations. They may need to retake previous exams later.
