About The Program

Damodarshree National Award for Academic Excellence 2016 award is for the best essay in English or Hindi on "The time to begin is Now; the ground Here" or "आरम्भ का क्षण है अभी; जमींन यहीं"

It is possible to look at the topic set for an essay contest in many different ways. Much of the charm of an essay lies in the way it interprets, and plays with the words of the topic. The participants in the contest should feel free to follow their own line of thinking.
'The time to begin is now; the ground is here' Who is making this statement?

What does 'Now' suggest? Urgency? or does it point to the present moment where the past converges and from where the future emanates, the only real, unimagined time where action can take place?

'Time to Begin'. Begin to bring about what? A change in the social/political/economical/cultural/educational structure? Is change in structure connected to change in consciousness?

Similarly 'Ground'. Is ground the individual/group consciousness?or is it the body of accepted norms/values that hold society together? or is it the social/political/economic/legal/religious power structure/structures?

Are there still other, completely different ways of looking at the topic? Not to agree with it or to do so only partially? Are the keywords interconnected?

Students pursuing their Under Graduate, Post Graduate or Doctoral studies in Central Universities and Universities established more than 75 years old, or their constituent/affiliated Colleges, Central Institutes, National Law Colleges, NIT’s,Central / State Medical Colleges, IIIT’s, BIT’s, IIT’s, IIM’s, XLRI are eligible.

How can you apply?

Other candidates who are eligible may participate by sending an entry fee of Rs 100 directly to the college along with their essay with demand draft of Rs 100 in favour of “Damodarshree Organizing Committee” payable at Allahabad.
A participant has to present a hard as well as soft copy of 2000 to 3000 words essay in English or Hindi on the topic“The time to begin is Now; the ground Here” by 31st Aug 2016 to damodarshree1923@.gmail.com. Fonts permitted Times New Roman size13 or Krutidev16 size 16 on A 4 size paper (hard copy). The hard copy should be sent to the Damodarshree Orgainising Committee, S.S. Khanna Girls’ Degree College, 179-D Attarsuiya, Allahabad-211003 (U.P.)

Terms and Conditions
  1. The length of the essay should be 2000-3000 words and the language should be English or Hindi.
  2. The papers will be screened by a panel of Eminent Judges.
  3. Selected Best 10 Finalists will be invited to present and defend their papers at Allahabad on 2nd October 2016.
  4. AC 2 tier fare and hospitality at Allahabad to the selected 10 candidates shall be provided by the organizers. 

RULES AND REGULATION

  1. Students pursuing their Under Graduate, Post Graduate or Doctoral studies in Central Universities and Universities established more than 75 years old, or their constituent/affiliated Colleges, Central Institutes, National Law Colleges, NIT’s,Central / State Medical Colleges, IIIT’s, BIT’s, IIT’s, IIM’s, XLRI are eligible.
  2. The Vice Chancellor of all eligible University/Institute or the Directors of IIT’s or National Law Colleges, NIT’s, Central / State Medical Colleges, IIIT’s, BIT’s, IIT’s, IIM’s, XLRI may recommend 03 entries (at least 01 for women candidate), which will be entertained without entry fee.
  3. The Principal of all constituent/affiliated college of a Central University/ Institutes, may recommend 02 essays, which will be entertained without entry fee.
  4. Other candidates who are eligible may participate by sending an entry fee of Rs. 100/- directly to the college along with their essay with demand draft of Rs. 100/- in favour of “Damodarshree Organizing Committee” payable at Allahabad.
  5.   6. Ten best entries will be selected by a panel of judges. The selected participants will be required to present and defend their essay at a function on the 2ndof Oct. in the premises of S.S. Khanna Girls’ Degree College, Allahabad.
  7. Participants will be given 8 minutes each for their presentation and another7 minutes for defence. There will also be a panel of judges to decide the winner and runners-up.
  8. The Traveling expenses of selected 10 candidates by AC-II will be borne by organizers. Hospitality at Allahabad will be taken care of.
  9. All essays and entries received shall be the property of the S. S. Khanna Girls’ Degree College And can be published in the manner it is so desired.

NOTE: Decision of the judges at the competition shall be final and binding on all the participants.
Important:

  1. The student has NOT TO WRITE his/her name, institutional affliation, address or any other personal information any where in the body of the Essay.
  2. The above & other identity information should be provided in the prescribed proforma which should accompany to the Essay.
  3. The matter downloaded or copied from internet or text of others, should be specifically indicated in the essay at appropriate place. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. Reproduction of the matter from internet or other should not exceed 20% of the text.
  4. Preference would be given to papers which reflects original thinking.
  5. Photo copy of the I-card should be attached with the paper.
  6. Joint paper shall not be accepted.

THE PRIZES

  1. The winner of the competition would be awarded Damodarshree National Awarded for Academic Excellence which will also carry the prize money of 2 Lakh.
  2. The Ist runner-up will receive a prize money of 1 Lakh.
  3. IInd runner-up will receive a prize money of 50,000/.
  4. The best Undergraduate entry will receive a prize money of 30,000/- .
  5. A Special Prize of 30,000/- would be awarded at the discretion of the organisers.

Important Dates :

  1. Last date for submission of paper :31st August
  2. Declaration of best short listed candidates :16th September
  3. Paper Presentation & Award Ceremony :2nd October
