About The Program

Dalai Lama Fellows Application 2019, USA is inviting applications from next-generation leaders who are working on social change projects in local communities to address one or more of the following areas: mitigating economic disparity, diminishing violence, gender inequity, improving cross-cultural and interreligious cooperation etc.
The foundation is reimagining leadership by cultivating and supporting a global movement of next-generation leaders applying universal values and local understanding to solve global challenges at the communal level.  The program is secular and ecumenical.​

To be eligible, the candidate must be:

  • A next-generation leader who is between the age of 20-35 years
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Familiar with the local community and the issues that the proposed project is seeking to address, preferably with more than one year of previous experience working with the community in question
  • Experienced in learning and practising contemplative practices
  • Committed to participate in the online learning platform
Benefits

The selected fellows get the following benefits:

  • A 1-year long fellowship 
  • A chance to immerse in the distinctive yearlong Head, Heart, Hands leadership curriculum
  • One-on-one coaching support is provided to the fellow's project on social change and personal development
  • Fellows participate in two week-long Global Assemblies and interact with other fellows and Global faculties
  • Fellows also get a lifelong affiliation in their global learning, community and support system.

Follow below steps to apply for the scholarship:
Step 1: Visit the website and create a new user account.
Step 2: Proceed to the online application form.
Step 3: Read instructions before proceeding with the application.
Step 4: Provide all the requisite details in the form.
Step 5: Submit the application.

Important Dates
  • February 3, 2019: Application due date
  • April 15 - 30, 2019: Fellows selected and notified
  • May 1-June 2019: Onboarding of Fellows and Preliminary Curriculum
  • June 2019 (TBD): 5 Day Global Assembly in the United States 
  • July 2019 - May 2020: Head, Heart, Hands curriculum, monthly coaching calls, learning groups, project implementation in local communities
  • June 2020 and beyond: 5 Day Global Assembly in the United States, where Fellows officially complete their Fellowship year and graduate into LifeLong Fellows global leadership and learning community
Terms and Conditions

The application consists of six major parts:

  • Resume/CV
  • Applicant Background and Overview
  • One Letter of Recommendation
  • Essay Questions
  • Application Video

While filling the online application form, the candidates should adhere to the below instructions:

  • In the subject line, please indicate FULL NAME
  • In the body of the message, please indicate the specific issue as well as the browser used
  • When uploading a document, the candidate MUST upload the file as a PDF, and the file name must correspond to the following format: Full Name File Title. Example: Tashi Tsering Timeline 
  • Some questions have question mark icons next to them. When these icons are clicked, a pop-up with additional instructions appears 
  • The candidates should be authentic in answering the questions asked in the application form
  • The candidates should imagine themselves as strong leaders which should reflect in their answers
  • The answers should be thoughtful and the candidates should always save an offline copy of the application for future reference

Q. How do you select your fellows?
A. The organisation looks for a genuine intention to learn new practices and perspectives that will increase (1) their self-awareness, (2) their ability to connect to and have concern for others, even when there are differences and (3) their ability to recognize interdependence by connecting with communities and people beyond their immediate project or local community.

 

Q. Do I have to be affiliated with one of your partners in order to apply?
A. 
The application is open to all students from any institution and any country who are drawn to a reimagined leadership approach.

 

Q. Do you offer any funding for projects?
A. 
The organization does not offer any funding for the projects. The applicants are encouraged to search for creative sources of project funding.
