About The Program

The DAAD Research Grants Doctoral Programmes, Germany 2018-19 is an opportunity for young foreign academics and scientists to involve in research and pursue higher education in Germany. This programme aims to promote the exchange of experience and networking through various doctoral projects in Germany.

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

The following candidates are eligible to apply for this scholarship:

  • Master's degree holders.
  • Doctoral candidates.
  • Postdoctoral researchers.
  • Bachelor's degree holders in case of exceptional cases.

  • A monthly payment of EUR 850 for graduates.
  • A monthly payment of EUR 1200 for doctoral candidates.
  • Payment towards insurance cover for health, accident and personal liability.

How can you apply?

The applications can be submitted online only through the DAAD portal. Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Register on the DAAD application portal here.
Step 2: Generate the 'Request reference' form in the portal after registration and download it.
Step 3: Send the reference form to the referee and get it filled and returned back.
Step 4: This reference form needs to be sent by post along with the application summary.
Step 5: Download the online application form from the DAAD portal, fill up the required details and upload the duly filled application form along with other necessary documents.
Step 6: Submit the application.

Selection Criteria

The selection of the candidates will be done based on the reviews by an independent selection committee consisting of specialist scientists.
The most important selection criteria:

  • A convincing and well-planned research project.
  • The academic achievements of the applicant.

Note: Additional documents that prove academic suitability or provide information about extracurricular activities will also be considered in the assessment.

Terms and Conditions
  • The DAAD application portal opens about six weeks before the deadline.
  • It is important to clearly mention the contents of postal consignment in the documents for the customs authorities.
  • The applicants should not have graduated any longer than six years before the application deadline.
  • If the applicant is already working on a doctoral degree, he/she should not have started the degree any longer than three years previously.
  • Those applicants who have been in Germany for more than 15 months are not eligible.
  • The knowledge of German language is usually expected if the applicant's subject is arts, social sciences and law. For other subjects, proof of good English language may be accepted.
  • The research grants are for one year initially. The extension depends on the review by the selection committee.
