About The Program

The DAAD GROW Scholarship 2026 is an opportunity offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to early-career researchers, established academics and scientists. The program aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supports research and cooperation projects that reference at least one SDG, aiming to yield tangible benefits in health, education, climate, governance, social inclusion, and innovation. Selected candidates will receive up to €2,150 per month with additional benefits.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • belong to countries on the OECD DAC list, including India
  • be a doctoral student, postdoctoral researcher, university teacher, or established academic and scientist
  • demonstrate academic and scientific achievements relevant to the program

Note:-

  • Scientists applying for this scholarship must be employed at a university or research institute.
  • Doctoral students must have started their doctorate no more than 3 years ago from the application deadline.
  • Postdoctoral researchers must have completed their PhD no more than 4 years before the application deadline.
  • Women, socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals and persons from disadvantaged regions or groups are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Individuals already in Germany and who are conducting an entire doctoral or postdoctoral research at a German higher education institution are ineligible.
  • Individuals residing in Germany for more than 15 months at the application deadline are ineligible.
Benefits

Selected candidates will receive monthly scholarship payments of €1,400 (for doctoral and postdoctoral candidates), €2,000 (for assistant professors and lecturers), and €2,150 (for full professors).

Additionally, candidates are eligible for payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover. Travel allowance will be provided as per DAAD guidelines.

Duration of the funding

  • Program Line 1: (preparatory and cooperation visits) 1 to 2 months
  • Program Line 2: (research stays) 2 to 6 months

Note:-

  • Stays conducted outside Germany are ineligible for funding.
  • The period of funding must begin in 2026 and be completed by 31st January 2027. Funding or extension beyond 31 January 2027 is not possible.

Documents must be translated to German/English and uploaded in PDF format with the original document.

Eligible candidates can apply by following these steps:-
Step 1:

Note:- The funding period will be determined by the selection committee during the selection process. Applicants are requested to indicate the desired funding period in the application form.
