About The Program

CUHK Undergraduate Scholarships, Shenzhen 2018 invites applications from students who have passed class 12 or equivalent. The scholarship program comprises four types of scholarships and one work-study program. The key objective of the scholarships is to attract international students, especially from India on the basis of their outstanding academic or non-academic performance.

  • An applicant must have - 
    • General Certificate of Education (GCE), OR/AND
    • International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB), OR/AND
    • Local national higher education entrance examination like SAT (USA), UEC/STPM (Malaysia), OSSD (Canada), ATAR (Australia), OR/AND
    • At least one year of undergraduate study at a qualified university or one year of study leading to the qualification of associate degree/higher diploma or its equivalent. 
  • An applicant must also be proficient in the English language with IELTS (minimum 6.0), TOEFL (minimum 80), GCSE/IGCSE/GCE-OL (minimum C), GCE-AL/AS (minimum E) or IB (minimum 4).
Benefits
Under this scholarship program, the following scholarships will be disbursed -
  • Entry Scholarship for 4 years that includes the full scholarship of RMB 95,000 per annum, a half scholarship of RMB 47,500 per annum, a quarter scholarship of RMB 23,750 per annum and full accommodation fee scholarship of RMB 1200 per annum.
  • Academic Performance Scholarship will be given to students with an outstanding academic performance that includes Tier 1 scholarship of RMB 80,000 per annum, Tier 2 scholarship of RMB 40,000 per annum, Tier 3 scholarship of RMB 20,000 per annum. 
  • Government Sponsored International Scholarship that includes Shenzhen Universiade International Scholarship from RMB 20,000 to RMB 40,000 and Giangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship of RMB 10,000. 
  • A work-study program is also available under which the students are paid up to RMB 800 per month.

How can you apply?

For students, there will be 2 steps:

Step 1: Scholarship application and selection: Students need to apply for the scholarship, online and based on their merit, they will be shortlisted for short telephonic interview round. Click here to apply for Step 1 and fill the 5 step online application form.

Step 2: Admission application and selection: Finalist students (post interview) need to apply again for CUHK undergraduate admission application form to receive conditional admission offer letter.

Important Dates
  • The application for Shenzhen Universiade International Scholarship opens in the month of April every year. 
  • The application for Guangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship opens in the month of October every year. 
Selection Criteria
The assessment of applications will be based mainly on academic performance, evaluated through the documents provided by the applicant and the interview. Other assessment factors include -

FAQ's
Q. Will Chinese language proficiency increase the applicant's chance of admission? 
A. Not directly. Since all courses are taught in English, demonstration of Chinese proficiency is not compulsory but it may be considered favourable in the application. 
Q. Can an applicant transfer from another course at another university? 
A. The scholarship is applicable for students entering in the first year of study. However, once they are registered at CUHK-Shenzhen, they can apply for credits. 
Q. Can applicants apply for admission if he/she has not received the test results? 
A. Yes, they can apply with the remaining documentation which is available at the time. A conditional offer will be issued if they meed the university's standards.
