About The Program

Colin Aiken Plant Breeding Bursary 2020-21 is a financial grant, offered by South Pacific Seed Sales (NZ) Ltd. with funds provided by royalties from sales of the Super Kumi hybrid variety in acknowledgement of Mr Colin Aiken. The bursary is open for undergraduate and postgraduate students who are studying plant breeding at Massey University or Lincoln University and offers NZD 1,000 per annum.

Applicant should fulfil the following criteria to apply:

  • The applicant should be an undergraduate or postgraduate student at Massey University or Lincoln University studying plant breeding. 
  • The applicant must be a full-time enrolled student at Massey University or Lincoln University,

 

Benefits

One selected applicant will get a financial grant of NZD 1,000 per annum.

How can you apply?

Follow the steps to apply:

Step 1: Complete the admission process (Only for new students). Applicants who have completed the admission process will get a student ID and password.
Step 2: Go to the portal login for the students.
Step 3: Log in with the student ID and password.
Step 4: Visit the scholarship tab.
Step 5: Select the 'Colin Aiken Plant Breeding Bursary'. 
Step 6: Apply.

Important Dates

Opening date: 01st May 2021
Closing date: 01st August 2021

Selection Criteria

The selection will be made on the following basis:

  • Preference will be given to those students who are intending to pursue a career in plant breeding
  • Preference may also be given to New Zealand citizens, though students of other nationalities will be considered. 
  • The scholarship will be granted on the basis of sufficient academic merit.
  • The selection will be done on the recommendation of the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee (Massey University) after consultation with a representative from South Pacific Seed Sales Ltd and/or an Aiken Family representative and plant breeding teaching staff.
Terms and Conditions
  • It is the responsibility of the Chairman of the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarship Committee to inform Mr Aiken about the recipient of the bursary every year. 
  • The number of scholarships will be given in one instalment in the month of September subject to satisfactory progress of the recipient's studies. 
  • The students withdrawing their studies during the year in which bursary was awarded may require to repay a proportion of money awarded to them.
