About The Program

Chiang Mai University, Thailand invites applications for CMU Presidential Scholarship for 2019 from graduate and masters students. The purpose of this scholarship is to support the study of research students from Thailand and other foreign countries. Successful scholars will receive tuition fee up to THB 200,000, life, accident and health insurance, books and stationery, living allowance and other benefits.

For Doctoral Degree Level

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree with a GPA not less than 3.50 (based on the maximum of 4.00) or equivalent, OR 
  • Hold a Master's degree with a GPA not less than 3.50 (based on the maximum of 4.00) or equivalent
  • Have a certificate of English Language proficiency dated within the last 2 years - IELTS or TOEFL only (IELTS scores of 6.0, TOEFL scores of 550 (PBT) or 183 (CBT) or 79 (IBT), except for applicants who are native English speakers)

For Master's Degree Level

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree with a GPA not less than 3.50 (based on the maximum of 4.00) or equivalent
  • Have a certificate of English Language proficiency dated within the last 2 years - IELTS or TOEFL only (IELTS scores of 6.0, TOEFL scores of 550 (PBT) or 183 (CBT) or 79 (IBT), except for applicants who are native English speakers)
Benefits

A total of 200 scholarships are on offer that comprises 100 Doctoral Degree Scholarships and 100 Master's Degree Scholarships. The benefits include -

  • THB 50,000 – THB 200,000 per year for tuition fees
  • THB 3,000 per year for life, accident and health insurance
  • THB 3,000 (lump sum) per semester for books and stationery
  • THB 12,000 per month towards the living allowance
  • THB 6,000 as settlement allowance (once on arrival)
  • THB 6,000 (lump sum) as thesis publication allowance
  • Up to THB 15,000 per trip for travel expenses
Documents
  • Research plan of about 3-5 pages
  • English language proficiency certificate (IELTS or TOEFL)
  • Research outline of the program - at least 2 pages
  • Two recommendation letters
  • At least 2 publications or acceptances to publish in an international journal listed in ISI, Scopus, IEEE, PubMed or Web of Science databases.
  • Bachelor’s and master’s transcripts

Students applying for intended admission program at CMU can apply for the scholarship along with the relevant documents at the time of application submission.

Selection of the candidates would be based upon the academic performance and the research potentials of the candidates.

  • If the grading system for the academic qualifications of the candidates is different from that of Thailand, the applicant must attach official proof of equivalence to the Thailand Grading System.
  • Grantees are required to contribute and engage in activities organized by the university, graduate school, faculty, college or institute on a regular basis and duration.
