About The Program

The Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Government of China jointly invite applications for Chinese Government Scholarship 2019-20 from Indian nationals who wish to pursue Undergraduate, Master's, Doctoral, General Scholar and Senior Scholar programs. The aim of the scholarship is to provide promote mutual understanding, cooperation and educational exchange between the two countries. The selected students can benefit from a full or partial scholarship.

The eligibility criteria vary depending on the program the candidate wishes to pursue:

  • Undergraduate programs: The applicant must be a high school graduate under the age of 25
  • Master’s programs: The applicant must be a Bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35
  • Doctoral programs: The applicant must be a Master’s degree holder under the age of 40
  • General Scholar program: The applicant must be under the age of 45 and have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate study when applying for General Scholar program
  • Senior Scholar programs: The applicant must be a Master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for Senior Scholar programs

 

Benefits

The scholarship will be offered by both the Indian and Chinese governments.

Benefits offered by the Government of India

  • The Government of India will provide support in airfare. It will bear the international passage cost for outward journey i.e. from India to China only.

Benefits offered by the Government of China

The applicants may benefit from full or partial scholarship offered by the Government of China.

Full scholarship covers: 

  • Tuition waiver which also covers education, administration costs and expenditures to support student activities
  • Accommodation including free university dormitory or accommodation subsidy
  • A stipend of up to CNY 3500 per month
  • Medical insurance

Partial scholarship covers: 

  • One or some items of the full scholarship

  • Self-attested copy of mark sheets, certificates, degrees, diploma etc
  • Self-attested copy of class 10th certificate

Note: The documents should be under 530 kb in size for a single file. The applicants can make .pdf file or can zip in case of more than one document to be uploaded in a single place. A zip file is treated as a single file and it must be under 530 kb.

 

How can you apply?

To avail the scholarship, the applicant needs to apply through the scholarship portal of both India and China. It is mandatory to apply through both the portals.

Applying on the Indian portal

Step 1: Visit the online application portal.
Step 2: Enter personal, academic and other details.
Step 3: Upload the required documents.
Step 4: Submit the application.

Applying on the Chinese portal

Step 1: Visit the online application portal.
Step 2: Click on 'Create An Account' and register using the email id.
Step 3: Activate the account through the link received on the registered email.
Step 4: Login using the newly created credentials.
Step 5: Read the instructions and proceed with the online application.
Step 6: Provide the necessary details and upload the required documents.
Step 7: Submit the application.

Note: Applicants do not need to send a hard copy of the application.

Selection Criteria

The scholarship recipients will be selected based on merit.

  • For the Undergraduate programme, the merit list would be based on class 12 and class 10 marks. 80% weightage would be given for class 12 and 20% weightage for class 10 marks.
  • For PhD, Master's, Senior Scholar and General Scholar programme, the merit list would be drawn by giving weightage based on the institutions where the candidate is pursuing or completed his/her qualifying exam.

  • It is mandatory for the applicants to simultaneously apply through the Ministry of Human Resource Development portal as well as the China Scholarship Council website.
  • It is mandatory to study Chinese Language Course of about 1 year before starting study in the relevant subject in Chinese language.
  • It must be noted that the medium of instructions/study in China is Chinese language. 
  • The applicants should have adequate knowledge of the geographical situation, culture and heritage of China.
  • The final selection of the nominated candidates rests with the Government of People’s Republic of China.
  • All the relevant communication will be made through the candidate's registered email.
