To be eligible, an applicant must:
- Be a citizen of India, Brazil, China, Russia or the USA
- Have a graduate degree with an international bias less than 12 years ago from the date of applying for the fellowship
- Have acquired initial leadership experience
- Be willing to dedicate at least 1 year to working on a self-developed project with a host in Germany
- Be able to demonstrate social significance in his/her project and potential to build future bridges between his/her own country and Germany
- Be willing to work in sectors like economics, politics, media, culture and administration
- Have proven proficiency in German and English language
Benefits
A total of 10 fellows will be selected from each country. The fellowship grant amount may vary from EUR 2,150 to EUR 2,750 per month. Adding to this, the selected fellows will also receive -
- Mobility allowance
- Contribution to health and liability insurance
- Allowance of EUR 500 per month for research costs for the hosts in Germany
- Lump sum for travel to and from Germany
- Allowances for family members accompanying the fellow for a minimum of 3 months
- Europe allowance
- German courses
- Extensive alumni sponsorship

Eligible candidates can apply for the fellowship online through following steps -

Step 3: Create an account on the official website of the Humboldt Foundation.
Step 4: Once registered, log in to the account using the login credentials.
Step 5: Fill in the fellowship application form with information like personal details, educational qualification, and more.
Step 6: Upload all supporting documents.
Step 7: Submit the application form.
Selection Criteria
The selection of fellows is done in two steps: initial shortlisting of the applications and interview. The following criteria are considered while selecting the fellows -
- Previous career and leadership potential
- Significance of fellowship for further career development
- Potential to build bridges between the home country and Germany
- International outlook and future role as an international leader
- Existing knowledge to help complete the project successfully
- The relevance of the project for the dialogue of modern societies

- A candidate can apply for the fellowship once he/she has confirmation from the host.
- The applicants who have already been sponsored by the Humboldt Foundation cannot apply for any other Foundation fellowships.
