About The Program

The DAE Doctoral Fellowship Scheme (DDFS) 2026 is offered by the Human Resource Development Division (HRDD), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). This prestigious fellowship supports outstanding engineering postgraduates pursuing a Ph.D. under the aegis of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI). Selected fellows will receive ₹80,000 per month along with an annual contingency grant of ₹60,000 for up to 5 years.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be an Indian citizen
  • hold M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc. (Engg)/Integrated M.Tech degree in Chemical, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Metallurgy/Material Science, or Civil Engineering with minimum 60% marks (or 6.0 CGPA on 10-point scale)
  • hold an undergraduate B.E./B.Tech./B.Sc. (Engg) degree in a relevant stream with a minimum 60% marks
  • be born on or after 1 August 1998 (maximum age 28 years for General category; age relaxation applicable for OBC, SC/ST, and PWD candidates)

Note:- Candidates awaiting final results in academic year 2025-2026 may apply, but must have results up to the 2nd semester of M.Tech (or 9th semester for Integrated M.Tech).

Age relaxation is applicable up to:

  • 3 years in case of Non-creamy Other Backward Class applicants
  • 5 years in case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe applicants
  • 10 years of age relaxation for a person with disability

Selected fellows will receive:

  • Monthly fellowship of ₹80,000
  • Annual contingency grant of ₹60,000 for PhD-related expenses

Eligible applicants can apply by following these steps:-

Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below.
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: Navigate to the ‘DDFS Portal URL’, and click on the ‘Click HERE’ button.
Step 4: Click on the 'Click here for New Registration'. Fill in the required details, and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 5: Verify registered mobile number via OTP and email ID through the verification link sent.
Step 6: Complete the online application form with personal details, academic qualifications, and city preferences for screening examination.
Step 7: Upload required documents.
Step 8: Preview and verify all entered information carefully.
Step 9: Pay the application fee of ₹500 (if applicable) through SBI Payment Gateway and complete the final submission.

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be selected through a two-step process:

Online Screening Examination (CBT): Students must appear for the Computer-based test to be held at multiple centers across India.

Weighted Screening Score: Equal weightage given to marks obtained in M.Tech (average of Semester 1st and 2nd) and DDFS Screening Examination marks.

Selection Interview: Shortlisted candidates will present their M.Tech project (10 minutes) during the interview at BARC Training School, Mumbai—final selection based solely on interview performance, subject to medical fitness.

  • Only online applications will be accepted.
  • Candidates can apply for only ONE DDFS screening discipline.
  • Application fee of ₹500 + bank charges (exempted for women, SC/ST, transgender, and PWD candidates with 40%+ disability).
  • No modifications allowed after the final submission of the application.
  • Travel allowance is not provided for the screening examination.
  • Two-way AC-III tier train fare provided for selection interview (outstation candidates).
  • Selected candidates must submit their final marksheet by 31 December 2026.
  • All academic requirements must be completed before 15 July 2026.
  • The decision of the competent authority at BARC shall be final and binding.
