About The Program

Azim Premji Foundation invites applications for Fellowship Programme 2018 from young and passionate people belonging to a variety of backgrounds. This Fellowship is designed to provide deep immersion into teaching-learning, the school education system and its core issues. Every Fellow will be actively mentored.

In order to be eligible for this Fellowship, an applicant must-

  • Have a minimum of 3 to 10 years of work experience.
  • Have a regular post-graduate degree or a professional degree (B.Tech/MBA/or Equivalent) in any discipline.
  • Be proficient in local languages (Hindi, Kannada, Tamil or Telugu).
  • Not be more than 35 years of age.

  • How do you think you can contribute and impact the school education system? (Word Limit- max 600 words and min 300 words)
Terms and Conditions
  • It is a two-year Fulltime Fellowship Programme and it will provide opportunities to build understanding on how the change in education can happen.
  • Fellows will be posted in the rural districts of the six states and one Union territory that we work out of. They are expected to commit to a life which is seemingly rough but very rewarding - gaining important and exciting insights about the people of that terrain and their lives. Living and pursuing such a life is integral to the change.
  • Fellows will be posted to the interior districts of Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Uttarakhand.
  • Year 1 will be comprised of following activities-
  • Hands-on teaching experience for 120 days at a government school in the block of a district.
  • Understanding the ecosystem of a school engaging with the teachers, community, and education functionaries.
  • Constantly exploring issues of education through reading, writing and dialoguing with your colleagues.
  • Each Fellow will be actively mentored by experienced members of the Foundation.
  • Year 2 will continue all the activities of Year 1 and additional activities will be taken up in preparing for a suitable role that a Fellow might choose in the District Institute once the Fellowship Programme is completed.

Selection process-

  • After submitting the online application, shortlisted candidates will go through an online test which will be a combination of multiple choice and descriptive questions.
  • Candidates who pass the written test will go through two rounds of interviews and an offer will be made to the selected candidates.

Award details-

  • Each Fellow will get a consolidated monthly stipend of INR 28,800 during the two-year program. Statutory deductions will be applied.

Ques. When will the Fellowship Programme commence?
A. The Fellowship Programme will commence from March 2018.
Ques. Since I will be working in rural India, do I need to know the local language?
A. Yes, it is very important to be able to read and write in the local language. For example: if you are posted to Sirohi District Institute, you need to be able to read, write and speak in Hindi.
