Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is offering Marsden PhD Scholarship in Statistics, New Zealand 2019 for students having a masters or honours degree in statistics/analytics. It is a Marsden funded scholarship that allows successful applicants to work on a cross-faculty project dealing with identifying inflammation biomarkers for depression in Pacific youth in New Zealand. The project is led by Dr. El-Shadan Tautolo (Director of the Centre for Pacific Health & Development Research) and Professor Richard Siegert (Department of Psychology, Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences). The successful scholar gets a chance to gain valuable experience in biostatistics and healthcare analytics and well as works with an international team to contribute towards highly important health issues in New Zealand and internationally.

DeadlineClosed Eligibility To be eligible, an applicant must -
- Have a Masters or Honours degree in statistics/analytics with First class Honours or equivalent
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and an excellent academic record to conduct the doctoral study at AUT, New Zealand
- Fulfil all conditions for admission to Doctoral degree programme at AUT
- Be proficient in the English language with an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, 7 in writing and 6.0 or higher in all other bands
Benefits Only one successful applicant will receive the scholarship that comprises an annual stipend of NZD 27,500 and PhD fees tenable for up to three years subject to satisfactory progress of the candidate.
Documents - A curriculum vitae of maximum of 2 pages
- A brief outline of the candidate's research skills and experience in maximum of 2 pages
- A one-page summary of the applicant's motivations and goals in undertaking a PhD
- Academic transcripts and certificates of the previous qualification
- Two academic referee statements requested by the applicant
How can you apply? Eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship online through following steps -
Step 1: Visit the AUT Scholarship application portal.
Step 2: Click on the "Apply" button and proceed.
Step 3: Click on "Create New Account".
Step 4: Fill in required details and submit to register.
Step 5: Once registered, log in using the registered email id and password.
Step 6: Complete the scholarship application form and upload all supporting documents.
Step 7: Submit the application.
Selection Criteria
The selection of scholar is based on the strength demonstrated by the applicant in the following -
- Academic record
- Past research experience and publication record relevant to the project (if appropriate)
- Referees' statements

Terms and Conditions
- The award of scholarship is conditional on acceptance into the AUT doctoral programme.
- The successful applicants have to commit full-time to their research programme.
- The payment of scholarships will not be made retrospectively.
- The stipend is not released until the successful applicant is enrolled in the PhD programme at AUT.
- The decision of the selection panel is final. If they do not find a suitable applicant, the scholarship will not be awarded to anyone. Also, the position may be re-advertised.
