About The Program

A prestigious new scholarship programme has recently been launched targeting exceptionally talented Master’s students from outside Europe.

The Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship (AES) is a full scholarship of €25,000, covering tuition and living expenses for one academic year.

There is the possibility of an extension for a second year for two-year Master’s programmes.
The UvA will award up to 15 of these scholarships annually.​

Students from any discipline who graduated in the top 10% of their class may apply. Selection is on the basis of academic excellence, ambition and the relevance of the selected Master’s programme to a student’s future career. Scholarship recipients become part of a select community, taking part, for example, in extracurricular activities developed specially for them.

How can you apply?

You can only apply to the AES after submitting an application to one of the Master's programmes of the Graduate School of Social Sciences and receiving your University of Amsterdam student number. You can start your scholarship application before receiving your notification of admission, but you will only be eligible to receive the scholarship after successfully enrolling in the Master's programme.

Please note that the selection of candidates for the AES is highly competitive. In addition to the documents provided here, the AES selection committee will have access to your Master's application file and seek the advice of the respective Admissions Committee.

You can submit your application by completing the following steps:

  1. Submit your application for the Master programme of your choice
  2. Receive your student number
  3. Fill out and submit the application form for the Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship (you will need your student number)

Each year, the University of Amsterdam awards scholarships to outstanding students in various disciplines. The scholarships offered at the UvA are the Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship, Amsterdam Merit Scholarship, Amsterdam Science Talent Scholarship, Holland Scholarship and Orange Tulip Scholarship.
