About The Program

AICTE Post-doctoral Fellowship (PDF) Scheme 2024-25 is a program launched by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to provide financial assistance to meritorious students to pursue research and studies in specified fields of study in AICTE-approved institutions. Every year, AICTE offers 200 fellowships to deserving students. The selected candidates will receive a monthly fellowship of ₹65,000 and other benefits.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be under 35 years of age at the time of application
  • be unemployed i.e. not in regular service
  • have scored a minimum of 55% or equivalent percentage converted from CGPA at the undergraduate/postgraduate level OR
  • have a Ph.D. degree in a related subject to one of the following disciplines:
    • Engineering and Technology
    • Management
    • Design
    • Planning
    • Applied Arts
    • Crafts & Design
    • Hotel Management and Catering Technology
    • Computer Application
    • Applied Sciences
    • Interdisciplinary Areas
  • enrol at an AICTE-approved institution
  • identify a supervisor from an AICTE-approved institute/university and the supervisor should be a regular approved Ph.D guide in the particular university

Note:-

  • If a Ph.D. degree is not awarded, a provisional certificate can be accepted.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks is allowed for reserved categories.
  • Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and women will be eligible for an age relaxation of 5 years. Applicants from Other Backward Classes (OBC) will be eligible for a 3-year relaxation.
Benefits

The selected candidates will receive a tuition discount of:-

  • A monthly fellowship of ₹65,000
  • An annual contingency grant of ₹50,000 for miscellaneous expenses
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per central government norms

Note:-

  • The fellowship tenure is 1 year and can be extended to an additional year, with no provision for further extensions under any circumstances. The extension of the tenure will be determined by experts who will evaluate the research work of the fellows to ensure its satisfactory quality.
  • The awards will be provided to the candidates in their respective Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

How can you apply?

Eligible applicants can apply for the fellowship by following the below steps:-
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button.
Step 2: Click the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID.)
Step 3: Navigate to the 'Register' button on the right-hand side of the dashboard and fill in the required details to 'Register' (Note:- If already registered, log in using the registered email ID.) 
Step 4: Fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents (if applicable), and submit the application.


Alternatively, universities can register for the scheme and nominate students for the fellowship. Students interested in this category should contact their university administration or research department to learn about their specific application process and deadlines, as universities might have additional requirements.

Candidates are eligible to apply for the fellowship at any time throughout the year.

Selection Criteria

The AICTE committee will evaluate the research work of the applicants along with their accomplishments at the Ph.D. level and select candidates accordingly.

Terms and Conditions
  • The fellowship can be terminated by AICTE at any point during its tenure. Their decision is final.
  • Candidates are not allowed to avail of any fellowship/scholarship or other kinds of financial assistance during the tenure of the AICTE fellowship.
  • The fellowship cannot be transferred from the admitted university/institution.
  • Approved medical leave will result in a fellowship discontinuation for that period, resuming upon return.
  • The candidates must devote themselves to full-time research in addition to 8 hours of workload.
  • Every candidate must submit at least one paper/patent in a Scopus Indexed Journal per year during the fellowship tenure.
  • The candidate has to join the fellowship within a month of the award letter. The joining period may be extended up to 3 months under exceptional circumstances with approval from the AICTE committee.
  • If the candidate joins any form of employment, they have to inform AICTE through the institution/university of the exact date their employment begins. In such cases, the fellowship will be terminated on the date of joining the employment.
  • There will be monthly monitoring of the fellowship by the assessment committee on an institutional level and annual monitoring on the AICTE level. Candidates must submit annual progress reports in the prescribed format through the portal.
  • A maximum of 5 students per institute and 2 per supervisor is allowed to avail the fellowship.
  • The fellowship will be terminated if the candidate provides any false/misleading information or does not meet satisfactory levels of research work.
  • The fellowship will also be terminated if the candidate is found plagiarising/using unethical practices.
  • The institute/university is to provide the fellows with the required facilities for their studies. They must undertake additional duties to make sure the fellowship runs smoothly. For additional information, please refer to the ‘Fellowship Guidelines’ document.
