The American Association of University Women (AAUW) invites applications for AAUW International Fellowship Program 2018 from women interested in pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral studies in the USA. In existence since 1971, this fellowship program aims to empower women as individuals and as a community through the financial support provided for pursuing higher education.

DeadlineClosed Eligibility To be eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must:
- Be a woman candidate
- Have a citizenship of a country other than the United States
- Hold an academic degree equivalent to a US bachelor's degree completed by November 15, 2018
- Intend to devote full-time to the academic plan during the fellowship year
- Intend to return to her home country after course completion to pursue a professional career
The applicants must fulfill any of the following conditions as proof of their English language proficiency-
- A native speaker of the English language
- Having received her secondary diploma or undergraduate degree from an English-speaking institution
- A recent TOEFL score of minimum 550 for Paper-Based Test, 79 for Internet-Based Test, 60 for Revised TOEFL Paper-Delivered Test

Note: Preference is given to women who show prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work.
Benefits The selected women students will receive the following benefits depending on the course of the study-
- For Master’s/first professional degree, there will be a fellowship of USD 18,000.
- For Doctoral studies, there will be a fellowship of USD 20,000.
- For Postdoctoral studies, there will be a fellowship of USD 30,000.

Important Dates
- Application deadline: 15 November 2018 by 11:59 p.m. Central Time
- Notification of decisions through Email: 15 April 2019
- Fellowship year: 1 July 2019–30 June 2020
Selection Criteria
The selection of fellows will be made on a competitive basis. The International Fellowship Panel will make recommendations which will be subject to final approval by the AAUW Board of Directors. The selection will be made based on the following criteria-
- Academic and/or professional qualifications
- Applicant’s commitment to the advancement of women and girls in her home country
- Proposed time schedule
- Quality and feasibility of the proposed plan of study or research
- Demonstrated evidence of prior community and/or civic service in the home country
- Applicant’s country’s need for specialized knowledge or skill
- Financial need
- Motivation for graduate study or research
Note: Applicants residing in the home country at the time of application will receive special consideration.
Terms and Conditions
- Previous recipients of any AAUW national fellowship or grant are not eligible.
- The members and officers of AAUW Board of Directors are also not eligible.
- The fellowship funds are eligible for educational expenses, living expenses, dependent child care, travel to professional meetings, conferences, or seminars, as long as it does not exceed 10% of the fellowship.
- The fellowship stipend is subject to a 14% tax.
- The stipend checks are made payable to fellows only, not to institutions.
- The fellows may work up to 15 hours a week or teach one section of one course, with the prior written approval of AAUW.
