To be eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must:
- Be a woman candidate
- Have a citizenship of a country other than the United States
- Hold an academic degree equivalent to a US bachelor's degree completed by November 15, 2018
- Intend to devote full-time to the academic plan during the fellowship year
- Intend to return to her home country after course completion to pursue a professional career
The applicants must fulfill any of the following conditions as proof of their English language proficiency-
- A native speaker of the English language
- Having received her secondary diploma or undergraduate degree from an English-speaking institution
- A recent TOEFL score of minimum 550 for Paper-Based Test, 79 for Internet-Based Test, 60 for Revised TOEFL Paper-Delivered Test

Note: Preference is given to women who show prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work.
The selection of fellows will be made on a competitive basis. The International Fellowship Panel will make recommendations which will be subject to final approval by the AAUW Board of Directors. The selection will be made based on the following criteria-
- Academic and/or professional qualifications
- Applicant’s commitment to the advancement of women and girls in her home country
- Proposed time schedule
- Quality and feasibility of the proposed plan of study or research
- Demonstrated evidence of prior community and/or civic service in the home country
- Applicant’s country’s need for specialized knowledge or skill
- Financial need
- Motivation for graduate study or research
Note: Applicants residing in the home country at the time of application will receive special consideration.
