About The Program

The 3rd Pranita Mehta Memorial Essay Competition, 2018 is being organised by the Corporate Law Society, National Law University (NLU), Jodhpur in the memory of Ms. Pranita Mehta. NLU, Jodhpur invites entries from undergraduate and postgraduate law students across the country to participate in this essay competition. The winner of the contest can win up to INR 25,000.

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

This contest is open to all the students pursuing undergraduate (3/5-year) or postgraduate law degrees from any law school/university/college recognized by the Bar Council of India.

Topics for essay submission:

  • Reverse piercing of the Corporate Veil – an unexplored phenomenon in India
  • Kotak Committee Report and its implementation – a step in the right direction?
  • The future of cryptocurrency in India
  • Fugitive economic offenders and non-performing assets – a need for banking reforms?
Benefits
  • The winner of the first prize will receive an amount of INR 25,000.
  • The winner of the second prize will receive an amount of INR 15,000.
  • The winner of the third prize will receive an amount of INR 10,000.
  • A merit certificate will be given to top 10 submissions.
How can you apply?

Interested applicants need to register for the competition before providing essay submissions.

Registration:

Step 1: Send a 'Consent of Participation' through email to cls.nluj@gmail.com
Step 2:
Also, send a bona fide certificate from the participant's university with the following details:

  • Name of the participant
  • Year and Course (UG/PG)
  • University Name
  • Contact Phone Number
  • Address (for delivery of the certificate)

Note: There is no registration fee for participation.

Submission:

Step 1: The essay must be submitted as a soft copy through email.
Step 2: Rename the essay file as “Participant’s name_Topic”.
Step 3: Subject of the email should be “Submission: Pranita Mehta Essay Competition, 2018”.
Step 4: Send the soft copy of the essay through email to cls.nluj@gmail.com

  • Registration deadline: 30 November 2018 (11:59 pm)
  • Essay submission deadline: 30 January 2019 (11:59 pm)
  • Result declaration: Second week of March 2019
Important documents
Terms and Conditions
  • The essay should be submitted in MS-Word format (.doc/.docx) only. PDFs shall not be accepted.
  • The essay should be written in the English language only.
  • The submission shall be typewritten in an A4 sized document with a 1-inch margin on all sides and
    be justified.
  • The main text of the submission shall be in Font Times New Roman 12-point.
  • The footnotes shall be in Font Times New Roman 10-point.
  • There should be a uniform style of citation throughout the essay document.
  • The submission should be 1.5 spaced (except footnotes which may be single-spaced).
  • The word limit for the essay is 3000 words (excluding abstract and footnotes).
  • For abstract, the word limit is 300 words.
  • Plagiarism in the submitted essays will lead to disqualification.
  • The submission should not include the name of the participant in any form.
  • Co-authorship is not allowed.
  • Any previously published entry would not be permitted.
  • Copyright of the submission shall remain with CLS.
  • In case of any conflicts, the CLS shall be the final authority.
