The University of Queensland invites applications for the University of Queensland PhD Scholarship on Gram-Negative Organisms 2020 from PhD and MPhil applicants. The aim of this scholarship is to explore the molecular determinants of virulence and antimicrobial resistance in invasive Gram-negative infections in children and neonates. The selected scholars will receive up to AUD 28,092 per annum.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, an applicant must:

    • Have a bachelor’s degree with at least honours class IIA/IIB or equivalent from approved universities, which includes relevant research experience, OR
    • Have a research master’s degree, OR 
    • Have a coursework master’s degree and an overall GPA equivalent to 5.65 on the 7-point UQ scale, which includes a relevant research component, OR
    • Have a postgraduate degree of at least one-year full-time equivalent with an overall GPA equivalent to 5.0 on the 7-point UQ scale, OR
    • Have a bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of documented relevant research experience, including research publications
    Benefits

    An annual tax-free fund of AUD 28,092 will be given to selected scholars that can be used as tuition scholarship and living stipend scholarship.

    • Academic transcript for all post-secondary study undertaken, complete or incomplete, including the institution grading scale
    • Award certificates/testamurs for all completed post-secondary study
    • Evidence for meeting UQ's English language proficiency requirements
    • A copy of the passport
    • Contact details of two references to check applicant’s prior research experience

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be selected based on the criteria decided by the selection committee. A background in pathogen genomics, bioinformatics, or molecular biology would be preferable.

  • A domestic part-time student with carer’s responsibilities, a medical condition or a disability, which prevents them from studying full time may be eligible for scholarship consideration, on a case by case basis.
