The Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, UK invites applications for Richard and Susan Hayden Academy Fellowship 2019 from candidates who are at the mid-point of their careers and are interested in the field of International Relations. The fellowship provides the opportunity to potential leaders from around the world to get involved and contribute to the work which Chatham House does. The fellowship provides a monthly stipend of GBP 2295 for 10 months.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, an applicant must -  

    • Hold a BA degree or an equivalent qualification. (Note: The students having a Master's degree with an international focus will be given preference)
    • Be at the mid-stage of his/her career coming from NGOs, academia, government departments, business, media or civil society
    Benefits

    The selected fellows will receive a monthly stipend of GBP 2295 during the term of the fellowship (10 months).

Selection Criteria

The selection of the fellows will be made through an interview via Skype to be conducted in May/June.

  • Possible project topics may include:
    • Are existing institutions for managing the global economy fit for purpose?
    • What lessons can be learned for regional governance from the political and economic challenges the EU has faced over the last decade?
    • How can inclusive, sustainable growth and accountable governance be achieved in Africa?
    • Is a state-centric approach to the Arab world sufficient or will regional dynamics require a different set of mechanisms for effective governance?
    • What are the implications of rapid growth in the Asia-Pacific region for regional and global governance?
    • What are the broader implications of Asia’s rise - particularly China’s significance - for global governance and the international rules-based system?
    • What innovative regional and global solutions are there for responding to the refugee crisis and the contemporary politics surrounding immigration?
    • What global strategies will be most effective for responding to challenges such as antimicrobial resistance and climate change?
    • What global and national governance strategies can ensure effective health coverage at the national level?
    • What governance strategies are most effective for ensuring that international organizations incorporate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?
    • How can governments and non-state actors deliver good governance and security in Russia and the Eastern Partnership countries?
    • Given the constraints imposed by its domestic politics, how can the United States most productively engage in the mechanisms and institutions of global governance?
  • The fellows are expected to work full-time towards their fellowship throughout the 10-month duration.
  • The institute will conduct interviews in May/June 2019 via Skype.
