About The Program

Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme for RPF (Ministry of Railways) 2024-25 offers financial assistance to the wards of ex-serving and serving Railway Protection Force (RPF) or Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel, below the rank of gazetted officer. The scheme aims to encourage higher technical and professional education among these wards. Selected students will receive a monthly scholarship of ₹3,000 for females and ₹2,500 for males.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be dependent ward (children) or widows of ex-serving and serving Railway Protection Force (RPF)/Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel below the rank of Gazetted Officer
  • have taken regular admission in the academic year 2023-24 and are applying for the PMSS for the same academic year
  • have secured at least 60% marks in their Minimum Entry Qualification (MEQ), such as Class 12, diploma, or graduation
  • be enrolled in professional degree courses (BE, B.Tech, BDS, MBBS, BEd, LLB, BCA, MCA, B.Pharma, etc.) recognised by the relevant government regulatory bodies like AICTE, MCI, UGC, or NCTE

Note:-

  • Master's degree courses are not eligible, except for MBA and MCA.
  • Distance learning courses are not eligible for the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS). Additionally, recipients can only avail the scholarship for one course.
  • Only two wards per family are eligible for the scholarship. Both beneficiaries and concerned zonal Railways/RPSF must ensure compliance with this limit.
  • Eligibility is restricted to institutes, universities, and colleges that adhere to AISHE regulations.
  • If the number of applications exceeds the number of available scholarships, the order of preference for scholarship allotment will be as follows:
    • Category I: Wards/widows of ex-RPF/RPSF personnel who died in harness due to causes attributed to encounters with terrorists or criminals while protecting Railway Property, Passengers, and Passenger Areas, or those who died during election duty.
    • Category II: Wards/widows of ex-RPF/RPSF personnel who died while in service.
    • Category III: Wards of ex-RPF/RPSF (retired) personnel.
    • Category IV: Wards of serving RPF/RPSF personnel.
Benefits

Selected candidates will receive the benefits as follows:-

  • For male candidates: A scholarship of ₹2,500 per month.
  • For female candidates: A scholarship of ₹3,000 per month.

All selected candidates will receive a personal letter of congratulations from the Honorable Prime Minister.

Documents

For Fresh Applicants:

  • Service certificate issued by the respective office for Category IV applicants (as per Annexure II)
  • PPO/Discharge Certificate/Book (Required for Categories I, II, and III)
  • Scanned copy of marksheet of the Minimum Entry Qualification (MEQ), such as 10+2, Diploma, or Graduation

For Renewal Applicants:

  • Updated Service Certificate: Issued by the respective office for Category IV applicants (as per Annexure II)
  • A scanned copy of the previous class marksheet/grade card or Proof of upgradation issued by the competent authority

How can you apply?

Eligible applicants can apply for the scholarship through the following steps:-
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below. 
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: Navigate to the 'Students' option on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 4: Now, click on the 'Login' button under the OTR option as it is required to apply for a scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Step 5: Click on the 'New user? Register yourself' on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 6: Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox, and click on the 'Next' button.
Step 7: Enter a functional mobile number, captcha code, and OTP, then submit to complete the registration process.
Step 8: Fill in the required details and click on 'Save & Register' to complete the 'One-time registration (OTR)' process. (Note:- This is a temporary registration number, students need to download the OTR mobile application for face authentication to complete the OTR process.)
Step 9: After successful registration, navigate to the 'Apply for Scholarship' option and click on the 'Login' button.
Step 10: Select the scholarship, fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents and submit.

Note:- All the applicants are advised to fill in the information correctly on the application form.  Once the application is submitted, no changes can be made. Additionally, submitting multiple applications will result in disqualification.

  • Applicants can renew their scholarships on the National Scholarship Portal using the application ID generated during initial registration. Required documents, including a certificate from the college or institute verifying the previous class/semester results and current course enrollment, can be uploaded by the candidate.
  • If a student granted a scholarship based on information provided in the application is later found to have submitted false information, the remaining scholarship will be forfeited. No further applications from the ex-serving RPF/window will be accepted, and the amount already paid must be refunded. Additionally, if the student fails the current class within the same academic year or discontinues the course, they will be ineligible for future scholarship renewals.
  • Zonal Railways will verify applications submitted through the scholarship portal. Only applications deemed eligible as per existing rules will be approved for a scholarship.
  • Scholarship amounts for both new and renewing applicants under the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) from the academic year 2017-18 onwards will be directly credited to the selected students' bank accounts through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initiative.
  • Applicants must provide their bank account number, which should be linked to their Aadhaar number, for this direct transfer.
  • The scholarship scheme is tenable for one to five years depending on the duration of the course.
  • If a student is using false information in their application, all the remaining scholarships will be forfeited and no application from the ex/serving RPF/window will be entertained in future. The scholarship amount will also have to be refunded along with interest.
  • The scholarship will be disbursed directly into the Bank accounts of the selected applicants through the Public Finance Management System (PFMS) under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Mission of the Government.
  • The Ministry of Railways can modify the rules and regulations of the scholarship at any time.
