The National University of Singapore in association with the Amgen Foundation invites applications for NUS Amgen Scholars Program 2020 from undergraduate applicants. This scholarship program offers an opportunity to the undergraduate students to undertake scientific research projects at many of the world's leading institutions. Under this scholarship, scholars will be enrolled in an eight-week program of biomedical research experience in the basic and translational sciences. Recipients will get an opportunity to receive guidance from faculty members. A stipend of SGD 6,000, campus accommodation and air travel will be awarded to the selected candidates.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, an applicant must:

    • Be enrolled in colleges or universities worldwide that award a bachelor’s degree
    • Have at least completed their first year of undergraduate study at the time the summer program begins
    • Not be graduating before the summer program begins, and after the summer program ends will resume undergraduate studies for at least 1 semester or 1 quarter
    • Have a good academic record
    • Have a good working knowledge of English, demonstrated by a minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 72, IELTS overall band score of 5.5, Cambridge English FCE, TOEIC score of 1095, TOEIC L&R score of 785, or TOEIC S&W score of 310
    • Be interested in pursuing a PhD
    Benefits

    A total of 15 scholars will be selected under this programme. The scholarship includes -

    • Campus accommodation
    • Airfare to Singapore up to SGD 2,500
    • A stipend of SGD 6,000 for the 8-week program
    • Visa application fee coverage

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be shortlisted based on the selection criteria.

Terms and Conditions
  • Recipients will not be entitled to health insurance either from the Amgen Foundation nor from the National University of Singapore.
  • The recipients cannot take or hold any other course or job throughout the duration of the program and must attend the program for its entire duration.
  • The recipients have to live in the accommodation provided by the National University of Singapore.
  • The recipients are required to provide a poster/ presentation outlining their research work.
  • The recipient must attend the orientation on June 2 along with all the required conferences, activities and social events associated with the program.
  • All participants are required to participate in laboratory safety training and test before commencement of lab work.
  • Recipients are expected to participate fully in the day-to-day life of the research group, respect the work of all members of the laboratory, and attend and participate in laboratory meetings or other gatherings.
